Went prom dress shopping with my 17 year old's SR Prom Royal Blue was our mission
She is actually doing her Jr/Sr year all in the same year so this is her only prom.

We usually do not make a good pair when shopping for her, our tastes are NOT in sync.

Today...we went to one store, didn't like anything there...either of us.

I suggested SEARS...she said oh mom, that is such a low end old lady clothes store, they won't have anything...

I said, well, lets just go see... (mom isn't stupid and was once 17)

We ride up the escalator and right at the top was the most beautiful blue dress with puffs (Imagine the gold ball dress of Belle from Beauty and the Beast only strapless)

she said, well they probably won't have my size, and it will have to be altered...

first dress was the correct size

I said try it on. she said okay

tried it on...FITS like a GLOVE even the length and the bust...we greenbriar women are blessed with ample cleavage.

she said but it's 169 dollars...(she didn't know dad said we could go to 250)

I said that is okay...

I asked if she liked it...she said yes it was perfect and just what she had in mind.

I said do you want to look anywhere else...she said no, someone might take this one. I said well lets buy it then. She said but it is expensive...I said it was within budget.

Get to the register SALE we got it for 149 after taxes ect...

SO Shoes to go with it.. strappy little silver numbers.

All in all it was a GREAT day

Pictures later

I do hope she takes her lip ring out tho...

it is the one thing I let her do that I don't like.

she convinced me by saying:

I make all A's
I am graduating High School in 3 years
I don't smoke, drink or do drugs
I work 30 hours a week

I just want my lip pierced to show a little rebel.

what could I say...

49. WOW!!!!
That sure ain't a refrigerator, which is pretty much all I've ever looked at in SEARS!!!

It's a beautiful girl in a smashing dress.

That's amazing, that dress. It's gorgeous, and the back detail makes it even better. It's just wonderful.

The beauty of this incredible dress makes the Sears story (and the sale price) even better.

Well done, Mom!

you should print out and save this thread (is that possible?) so that, in years to come, your daughter can see how thrilled you were.

This thread is a wonderful record of your palpable excitement and joy for your daughter's happiness.

25. She'll treasure the necklace.
Really. She'll hand it down to her own daughter if my impression of the dress and how special this is (and of you and her daddy) is right.

If I'm thinking about the description of the dress the same way you've written it I have a pair of drop pearl and cubic earrings that would look lovely with the dress. Particularly with some sort of hairstyle pulled away from the fac. I wore them for my first wedding, and I have no reason whatsoever to wear them now. They're just sitting in a box.

PM me if she's still earring hunting. I'd be happy to put them in the mail to you if they might be right. And if they're not right for her they'd doubtless be lovely for some other girl looking for a nice pair of prom earrings.

42. you are so sweet. It is ironic that pay it forward idea...she has a friend that can't afford a dres
I had a emerald green corsetted strapless thing kind of in the style of daughters without the puffs that I bought a few years ago for a cruise and offered it to daughters friend.

It is a little big, but she is so happy and going to take it and her mom can alter it to fit.

I told her it was hers to do with what she wanted if she liked it...

I did that this afternoon,

now,

your generous offer

8. Sometimes it all just...works. PS: On Cleavage...
I'm a BIG fan of cleavage.
I like some cleavage.
More than a full frontal which leaves nothing to the imagination.
Cleavage hints at buried treasure.
Forbidden fruit.

Doesn't have to be yards of cleavage.
An inch or so can satisfy.
At one time there was a 'cleavage watch' on Giada DeLaurentis' "Everyday Italian" show on the Food Network.

Obviously I speak of topside cleavage.
Not bottomside.
Bottomside cleavage is gross.

but inside, I knew this was important to her so I knew we had to do it and with 12 comprehensive Highschools in our district alone plus hundreds in communities all around us, I knew we needed to get on the ball because the choices were getting slim.

I am soooo glad for a great day

that, for the rest of her life, she's going to tell the great story about how she and her Mom found her beautiful prom dress at SEARS??????

And she'll have the pictures to prove how gorgeous she's gonna look on that magical night.

After many decades, I'm still in touch with the "boy" who took me to the junior and senior proms, and he still can't believe he didn't get lucky either night............. :)

14. Aw, that's nice
So glad it went smoothly! I remember hunting high and low for semiformal dresses with my mom and having mixed results (and tension headaches for both of us even though we normally got along just fine). When it came time for the proms, I borrowed a dress of my aunt's that I always admired for the junior prom, then I made my own damned dress for the senior prom. It was worth it to avoid the headaches (and expense).

Just happens to be my favorite color, too.

I hope she has a very fun, memorable prom.

(Quick tip for keeping the top where it belongs when fast-song dancing is part of the game: get some toupee tape at your local wig store. Line the top edge of the bodice with the tape and press gently after she zips the dress up. She can then jump around with impunity and not worry about her dress slipping. ;))

in the cups works as well, but toupee tape is much less painful.

However my tuxedo did have a nifty effect up close, it was made of a material that was actually striped, but it was two shades of black. So it had an interesting striped effect, but only when you were up close. :)

43. Yes, that's how you can tell a serious classical musician.
If they are a guy. They own a tux for gigs, but don't own a regular business suit!!!

:D

I was married to a string bass player who had a tux but not a suit to get married in. I was a violinist too. Still play the piano. :D

Fiddlers (and all classical string players) are quite incestuous. I could write a book!!!

I don't keep a long black skirt and a black blouse around all the time now, like I used to, for concerts. :D
