The irony of right wing christians
Among many other things, is how their little heads spin when you rattle off the many examples of Jesus showing what would now be called a liberal attitude.

After all, he was considered politically subversive, and he got pissed off when merchants wouldn't stop peddling their wares at the Temple (anti-industrialism?).

It just makes me chuckle when I see people like Shrubbie or Pat Robertson talking about their chat sessions with Jesus when you know they wouldn't give him the time of day if he showed up on their doorstep.

I've always mantained even after I stopped following any particular religion that Jesus was my kind of guy. He never stopped doing his thing even when it started to make waves. He didn't back down in the face of authority, not even when his followers tried to talk him out of it.

As a matter of fact, we could use people like that now.

1. It doesn't surprise me that Jesus appeals to non-Christians.
His basic message was non-religious; Love one another, treat others as you would like to be treated, place value on the intangible instead of the material.

The Jesus the reich-wing repukes promote is nothing like that.

4. An interesting conflict.
Alabama's repug governor, Bob Riley has proposed a new tax plan that appears to favor the poor and middle class. It's infinitely more fair than the system we now have. To try and sell his plan, and bring the state's powerful Christian conservatives on board, he's described it as the "Christian" thing to do.
Now get this...
The National Christian Coalition has endorsed his plan.
The Alabama branch of the Christian Coalition has come out dead set against it.

5. Christian horse-abusers...
There are some new people at the horse barn, this little holier than thou christian kid. He has a show horse, and he beats him with a whip. I just cringe and I have to actually pinch my mouth shut to keep from yelling something awful at him while he beats his poor horse... Then the other nite his horse was balking and wouldnt do anything and he beat him so badly he cut a Z in his side with the whip, like zorro. I just wanted to beat his ass. Then he took the lead rope, it had a chain on the end, wrapped it AROUND the poor horse's tender nose, and INTO his mouth, put the chain across his tender gums at the top and led him that way. Of course the horse followed him then, and then someone said the horse's gums were bleeding and he had bloody foam coming out his mouth.

I went to the coffee shop the next day for some tea and there sat the little fucker and his mama and the waitress was just setting their food down, and they stopped everything and bowed their heads like you would have expected rays of pure golden light from heaven to pool down over the halos on their heads... those christian fuckers... beating a poor dumb animal that has strength enough to kill any human but won't because it is so badly wanting to belong... then praying before they eat. !!
(note from my horse-y sister) I do not agree with these mean christians praying in public!

6. OMG! If my daughter saw that she would have gone ballistic.
My daughter has a horse, and at her barn many kids that have parents w/money have come and gone so I know exactly what you're talking about. Many of them only want the fun, and none of the work.

We take our animal compassion very seriously. She has been known to roll down her window and verbally accost drivers who have their dogs untethered in the back of pickup trucks. She went from being an animal-crazed child, to working in a pet store for her first few jobs, and now she's a veterniary technician.

Those people you talked about are vile, but I really feel for the horse.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

7. AS a horse owner for 10 years now
and one who has spent ample time in different board and care places I would have given the little bugger what for had I witnessed such abuse. Would words fail I would have simply torn the lead line from his hand, humanely attached the line to the halter, and walked the horse back to the stall. THEN, I would have laid into him like he'd laid into the horse.

Any thoughts about documenting what you see then calling The Humane Society? I'm not above it. But then, I'm not above mucking stalls in 100 degree heat either.

There are several ways to train a horse to do what you want, and the least effective way is beating the shit of it.

It makes me wonder how his family treated the waitress at the coffee shop.

15. The kid is probably treated to the same training
at home out of sight. We are what we learn and if we learn that the way to discipline is through violence that is what we do. That being said I don't approve of this kid's behavior and I really think the humane society or someone with their standing should have a look here, I wouldn't have any problem dropping a dime on them.

However, My interpretation of scripture tells me that I should forgive the little cretin, but the reverend is right, these people no more worship Jesus, than I worship Baal.

I don't know what God they're praying to, the one that said it's okay to use people for your own means, the one that says it's okay to hate, steal, cheat, beat your way over anyone or anything that stands in your path on the road to riches.

If people lived more by the sermon on the mount than by....

8. Poor horse
I hope someone complains to local animal welfare. In some states, mistreating an animal in that manner is a felony.

9. Jesus appeared to the people who needed him the most
prostitutes, tax collectors, the destitute of society.

I always love to hear about the rampant Born-Agains.

Seems like they hit total shit rock bottom, and the only thing they had left was something that said essentially "If I have to prove that I exist, then you aren't ready."

Babel Fish was the greatest argument to prove the NON-EXISTENCE of God.

11. Why "Christians" should be Liberals like Christ :
These people are no more followers of Christ than they are "the Party of Lincoln". And it's time we called them on their impersonating human beings!

at http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org .

See what Christ might say about the "Christian Coalition" & "Religious Right" impostors.

12. I think the one that gets me is the attitude that Jesus wanted people...
...to be materially wealthy.

Jesus was not big on wealth and material riches at all. If anything, he was very much against the accumulation of excessive wealth.

16. Yea I know
Heard this one from underpants. The only way to retire from the Supreme Court is through death or bad health. SO we have these fundies praying for turnover on the S.C. SO the fundies are praying for people to either die or be stricken with bad health :wtf:

Makes me sick.
