Watchmen - I wanted to love it
Edited on Sat Mar-07-09 02:19 AM by Ava
I didn't.. I left the theater with a "meh" opinion of the movie. It wasn't bad.. it wasn't great either. It was entirely too long. I expected to leave the theater loving the movie.. now I think I could have waited until it came out on DVD to see it.

1. You should have read the book first...
I really enjoyed the movie, the way it took a big bite into America culture. It was pretty deep for a "comic book" movie in the sense that it was a commentary on the 80's, the time it was written.

I actually thought that was the fastest 2 hours and 41 minutes I can remember. It reminded me of Sin City without the overt comic book overlays.

I really think a lot of people are going to be just huh, so that's the Watchmen. It's not a movie a lot of people are going to enjoy, especially if they go thinking Batman or Iron Man.

Not that you were thinking that Ava, but I can see a lot of other people thinking that.

2. i didn't think i was going to see a super hero movie
I think the move was entirely too long(it should have been split up or cut down) and had poor acting by some of the actors. i'm not saying i hated the movie.. it just wasn't amazing - which is what i thought it would be. I believe my opinion would be the same had i read all of the comic book before seeing the movie. I didn't have trouble understanding the film or the plot, I just didn't think it was as wonderful as people made it out to be(the movie that is). Honestly, I'm shocked it was 2 hours 41 minutes.. it seemed much much longer to me.

I know it's a "deep" book and movie.. and the message is something I appreciated about the film.. but still, it was just a "meh" movie for me.
