I'm taking mucho pain medication for chronic back pain...

I was taking Percocet for about three months. That only took the edge off my pain, so the pain specialist prescribed morphine, too. They're both at a small dosage but I feel like hell. I don't know why people get off on this stuff. I feel like I'm 90 years old and I'm afraid of addiction. I asked them if they could give me a urine test at every visit. I was told it would take a few weeks for my body to get used to it, but I don't know if I can manage that long.

Has anybody else ever been through this? I've been to about a dozen doctors and I've had every test in the book. They just can't find the source of the pain. I want to live a normal life, but at what price?

1. My dad recently went through some trouble with Percocet dependency

associated with trouble with his back. They did find the problem with him and he's had the surgery. Kicking the pain meds was pretty hard for him in the beginning. They did prescribe him a non-narcotic pain med to help with the withdrawal. I think the whole process took about a month. He is drug-free and pain-free now.

2. have you been through muscle relaxers ? I had more relief from that than

anything. Once the muscle was relaxed I could start a walking regimen and yoga and massage therapy.

Good luck I understand being in constant pain. I had a knife in my lower back (figuratively) for a very long time.

4. I've taken every painkiller,

including morphine. One of the strange rules of painkillers, according to my physician, is that you don't get a nice buzz if you're really in pain. That sucks, since you need the buzz when you're in pain.

Don't worry about dependence while you're in pain. That's the least of your worries. I have never had an issue with it, but I lack that gene I think, since I don't ever get hooked on anything. But, for now, your concern is taking care of your pain.

Have you tried oxycodone? It's nothing but percocet, but without the acetaminophen, so it doesn't mess with your liver. Maybe you need a higher dosage. I am on it every day, and have absolutely no problems with it.

I hope something works for you. But, really, just concentrate on having your pain relieved.
