I wanna know why Jesus gets all the credit
and none of the blame when sports teams lose?

I mean you never hear a pro athlete complain about jesus not helping him catch the pass or hit a home run? But when they win...the first thing they do is thank god/jesus...Just once I wanna hear a player freak out and say "Goddamn jesus, its his fault we lost...." Probably wont happen though...

1. Oh, that's beautiful........
Imagine.

The coach, being interviewed after the Big Loss, goes through the usual recitation of the trite phrases, and then adds, "But I wanna say one thing more, because these guys put their heart and soul into this game, and the final score doesn't reflect how hard they played. So, fuck you, God."

I would stay tuned for the post-game show if I thought that might ever happen.

5. Jesus made me fumble!
I'm trying to wean myself off sports, it's too time consuming. I don't watch football anymore, I gave that up. I got tired of the interviews after the games, because the winning players always give credit to God, and the losers blame themselves. You know, just once I'd like to hear a player say, 'Yeah, we were in the game—until Jesus made me fumble. He hates our team.' - Comedian Jeff Stilson

8. That's been bugging me about the plane that landed in the Hudson
All these passengers saying it was all because of god that they made it. No, you morans, it was because the pilot and crew kept their heads and did their job.

I agree - it would be fun to hear someone blame god or jesus for the loss of a ball game.

That was god's work. She was practicing, trying to invent fjords.

Jesus is no Detroit Lions fan, that's for sure!

38. Yeah, someone could just as easily say: "That God -- What an a-hole!"
"Why didn't the Supreme Being keep those geese out of the engine?"

But, no. You never hear that.

Religion -- What a bunch of nonsense. :)

9. It's illogical and actually pretty childish.
If god wanted me to win, then he wanted someone else to lose. Why? And what if we look beyond sports and at things that matter. Part of it is the argument from incomplete devastation. One pilot saves his plane from a firey crash. Somehow that was a miracle (although one might wonder why god allowed the accident that caused the problem in the first place). Yet no one blames god for all the crashes that are disasters. There by the grace grace of god goes someone else.

19. Crediting or Blaming Jesus for Sports Victories Mocks Spirituality
True spirituality occurs when you think of, work for, and pray for others, not yourself. There are people all over the world in serious trouble and pain, and asking Jesus to help you win a football game or sell rap CDs shows that you are not a spiritual person at all. It shows that you are an arrogant narcissist.

If you blame or insult the mafia, POW! You're whacked.

28. My feeling is that any deity
That cares about the outcome of sporting events is one that has a seriously warped set of priorities. He - and it's always a "He" in these cases isn't it? No one thanks Demeter or Quan Yin for helping win a game - needs to quit watching ESPN and get on that Darfur or Zimbabwe problem.

I'd be ashamed to claim Divine Intervention was responsible for helping me accomplish something so inconsequential. Talk about an enormous ego! God is especially fond of your team? Excuse me, but isn't Pride the deadliest of sins for those who believe in the Judeo-Christian Sky Daddy?

Now if I'd discovered a cure for malaria or something - yeah, I could go there. In that case "I'd like to thank Quan Yin the compassionate..."

39. Only very minor dieties are un-busy enough to care who wins a football game.
Jeebus is probably way too busy trying to get his followers to occasionally do what he told them to. I think we should start a campaign to get Christians to love their neighbors instead of hating them for one day, this Sunday, so that Jesus can for once take off his sandals, prop up his feet, and watch the Super Bowl.
