Seriously, what the fuck?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28701299/

2200 acres for a memorial for flight 93?

2200 acres?

Jesus, Mt. Rushmore is only 1200 or so acres, and that includes the giant head mountain, parking lots, trails, sheds, walkways, lights, cafeteria, souvenir shop...

Ahhhhh, wait a minute - that's it.

Souvenir shop.

Bet you ten dollars to one the "Flight 93 memorial" turns into a disgusting Las Vegas style bit of awfulness.

Seriously, 2200 acres?

That's 137.5 World Trade Center site footprints.

Wouldn't something like a large plaque with their names be enough?

I mean, fer fuck's sake - that's more than a third the size of Gettysburg.

3. Cheney's debris field - that's a good one!
Maybe if the Supreme Court hadn't handed the presidency to the illegitimate one, there would be no need for a memorial to Flight 93.

4. At least it protects those 2200 acres from being sold for commercial/residential development

A new park under protection of the forestry act.

That's okay.

Much better than some alternatives.

Then disassembled the jet so it would never be found?

Are you insane?

15. On sept 11th 2002 my brother and I found ourselves at a Brazilian BBQ buffet for dinner.
Since I hadn't watched TV or processed much of any news that day, I wasn't aware that it was the anniversary. My brother turned to me and said "In honor of the fallen of 9/11, let's roll" and then stood up and proceeded to plunder the appetizer bar.

38. We must honor our dead,
and I cannot think of anything more fitting than a Brazilian BBQ buffet.

Maybe they could open one at that site? I mean, tourists who want to come to see where a plane crash - where there is nothing - would be getting hungry, what with taking all those pictures of nothing and reading the brochures that say nothing, and, most of all, taking the guided tour of nothing.

I salute you and and your brother. You are true American patriots.

32. Would you believe they actually named a high school after the guy who didn't say that
And might well have been a fictional character altogether. The Bushbot who pretended to be his "grieving widow" on TV sure wasn't telling the truth about anything, that much is obvious.

And then there's this........

UAL Flight 93 Landed Safely
At Cleveland Hopkins Airport
Plane Lands In Cleveland - Bomb Feared Aboard
8-7-4

Reported by 9News Staff
Web produced by:Liz Foreman
9/11/01 11:43:57 AM

A Boeing 767 out of Boston made an emergency landing Tuesday at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport due to concerns that it may have a bomb aboard, said Mayor Michael R. White.

White said the plane had been moved to a secure area of the airport, and was evacuated.

United identified the plane as Flight 93. The airline did not say how many people were aboard the flight.

United said it was also "deeply concerned" about another flight, Flight 175, a Boeing 767, which was bound from Boston to Los Angeles.

On behalf of the airline CEO James Goodwin said: "The thoughts of everyone at United are with the passengers and crew of these flights. Our prayers are also with everyone on the ground who may have been involved.

"United is working with all the relevant authorities, including the FBI, to obtain further information on these flights," he said.

34. Channel 9 TV News in Cleveland.
It actually was still on their website until about 2004 or so. I suspect the Bush Crime Family "suggested" to them that they should delete it. Certainly would explain why there was nothing resembling an airplane at the Shanksville site.

20. Yep. I focus on the trivial, because it's the trivial that most people put their energy into
Hence, shit like 100 million getting the underwear in a snit and uproar loudly their anger because Terri Schiavo might be taken off life support, but those 100 million don't give a goddamned second to outrage about the 30,000 children that die of easily preventable starvation every day.

And so on.

25. They can take their inspiration from Universal Studios
I can see it now: strap the park attendees into a giant, airplane shaped roller coaster.... After the giant flash of light when the "plane" "hits" the ground, a weeping Jesus can appear waving a giant American flag.

It'll be perfect. :D

Where there's some 28 miles of bike, horse trails & canoing http://www.sunriver-resort.com a commemorative plate from The Franklin Mint seems in order

29. This is entirely inadequate. They should seize the land along the entire flight path, NJ to SF.
Where are the demands to seize the Pentagon and Manhattan?

Families of Flight 93 last month asked the Bush Administration to seize the land after negotiations with Svonavec to buy the parcel stalled.

36. The place is already a bizarre roadside attraction.
A few foreign tourists stop by because it's uniquely U.S.A. weird.

Here's a photo of the Lockerbie memorial in Scotland, taken December 21,2008, the 20th anniversary of the bombing.

http://www.daylife.com/photo/0dCT7Cg0wX9N2/lockerbie_memorial_garden

It's not 2200 acres.

Here are "Sacred Draglines of Shanksville," the abandoned coal mine where Flight 93 crashed:

Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 05:51 PM by Rabrrrrrr
I mean, if all flight crash memorials are 2200 acres, those people must be really frakking huge!

:eyes:

Lockerbie Memorial seems to be perfectly sufficient.

I also notice how the people are dressed - if that were America, the people would be in Packers jackets, bright red fleece things, lumberjack outfits, the men would still have their John Deere and "Big Pete's House Of Beef!" baseball caps on, bib overalls, bright yellow jackets, and they'd be chewing gum, at least one person would have an outfit made from a US flag, and the one guy who actually managed to wear a tie would have one with mugs of beer on it as the pattern, and they'd be dressed that way because stopping at the memorial would happen right after their morning shopping spree at the Megamall, and then right after the Memorial they're heading to Old Country Buffet for lunch so they can make it to the concrete animal park by 3:00 pm for their Tuesday afternoon free beer shooters.
