Heh. For fun, try typing in the titles of actual bestsellers. A lot of them don't meet this site's criteria.

1. It doesn't like the title of my manuscript.
At all. 29.6% chance of being a bestseller. What's wrong with A Year of Septembers?

2. When I started to write my own book, in 2001, I called it "My Life"
Then Bill Clinton stole my title! lol After I heard people joking about the title, after it was published, I didn't feel so bad.

3. The title I have had in mind for mine was given a 63.7% chance of hitting a best seller list.
Also known as a B.S. list every time Ann Coulter's latest tirade is sold...

Now, how to get it up to 100%... A wee bit of Grammatical Viagra should do the trick... at least for a couple of hours...

Changing it from 'literal' to 'figurative' had it drop to 26.3%

Thanks for the link!!

Amusingly, I took the title of a book written in the early 1990s, by Madonna, and that book had a 55.4% chance of getting somewhere. The book was entitled "Sex", and I think it had more pictures than words. Which is for the best, she doesn't know any words other than "I" and her audience isn't going to want to spend its time reading, if you know what I mean...

10. Hrm... she doesn't know any words other than "I", you say?
You clearly don't know a great deal about her or her audience.

15. With her performance, what would compel a person to really get to know her?
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 05:41 PM by HypnoToad
skip that. It's so easy even I can fathom it out. "Sex".

Edit2: I decided, what the heck, to look up wikipedia's entry of her:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madonna_(entertainer)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_(book)
(a reference found early on in from the previous link)

I read both; more than enough. I need to know nothing more about her.

For that's how she's sold herself. That's her right. And that's who she is. That's how she has expressed herself.

And it's not my right to blindly treat her as a deity for doing so. Maybe I'll question motivations, apart from the ones everyone else already had one day. Of course, asking Lucy why she always tricked Charlie Brown might be more intellectually rewarding.

But I'm not sure of my answers because the goddamned popups blocked out their text.

Piss poor web design/

6. I don't know enough about parts of speech to accurately fill it in.
That first and second word of the title stuff.

7. I was sad that my favorite titles don't stand more than a 45% chance of being bestsellers.
And even sadder that the simple, trendier titles stood the greatest chance. Stupid American reading public.

9. That's what sells.
Or at least something that doesn't sound trite.

Start simple, get more detailed without swamping in them in inane details is the key.

12. Rename you book to 'azmousereaux'
Now you're up to 46.6%

Considering "despereaux" brings in a cool 10.6%, you stand a much better chance at outdoing a snotty computer generated mouse. :)

14. And don't forget, "Harry Penis and the Author's Stoned" has a 10.2% chance
And when it comes to body parts, "Private Parts" had a 41.4% chance of going somewhere and, oh why oh why, it did get to #1... with decent people removing it from the list and shifting all the others up a notch. :D

13. Man, you have to know your parts of speech!
I tried several proposed titles for books and kept getting "10.2%" Then I noticed the pull-menus and how I had to select how the words in my titles are used.

Then I received results of above 50%! New York Best Seller List: Here I come!

If I publish a few best sellers, I'll be lighting my 50-cent cigars with $100 bills!
