Techies, a question about Wii and WiFi
I know the Wii has the capability of connecting to the internets. I have tried to set it up to do that and get an error message. Do I need to assign the Wii an IP address on my WiFi?

4. Here's a couple of suggestions.
http://www.wikihow.com/Go-on-the-Internet-on-Your-Nintendo-Wii

Says "If you get an error code, use the Nintendo online tool
to determine the source of your connection problem." If you
did that, it says something about maybe router compatibility
issues, needing a USB connector, etc.

6. I have a home network.
The Wii recognized it, no problem. I just had to enter the password.

8. Got it fixed.
I think the problem was that I had to set up an IP address for the Wii on my router. Once I did that, it hooked right up.

9. Normally a router will provide the IP address automatically.
So if it was having trouble there it could be a bunch of things. Ah well, as long as you got it working.

10. This router needs to have the IPs set manually
Weird, but true.

18. my husband thinks I'm a luddite since he has to keep explaining certain

things over and over. He can't understand why I don't remember the minutiae or think like a geek. (I do a little, since I've been living with him for so long!) I even laugh at Apple geek jokes!

It always amuses me to see the crowd at the "Genuis" Bar.

16. That's not a bad security measure.
Password protection and filtering by MAC are good, but safest of all may be to block everything that's not entered manually.

17. It all depends on whether you have DHCP
enabled on your router.

Since you had to set the IP manually, it must not be enabled.

If you turn on DHCP on the router, you won't have this problem.

I do not use DHCP so I always set my own IPs.
