Automoble problem...Hard starting ....when warmed-up ...runs fine
1993 ford ranger 6 cyl 54,000 miles

When I first go out to start truck, is fairly hard to start...takes about 1 minute (off and on)

After truck warms up...runs great...which tell's me it's something to do with air/fuel mix

Any ideas?

Thanks!

1. What have you tried so far?
Have you changed anything out yet?

Could be a lot of things. Maybe a solenoid, the temperature sensor, or even just a clogged intake on the fuel injector.

3. I think with that the engine would run slower or die when it idled...

6. I'm just thinking back to an '86 Ford I had (V6, 5X,000 miles)
It was hard to start, idled slow and rough, would die if I tried moving before it warmed up, then once it was warmed up ran much better. Replacing the oxygen sensor improved things quite a bit. I traded it in before completely solving the problem, though. Bought a Saturn and hardly popped the hood since except to refill the washer reservoir.

7. I had an 85 Mustang and was changing the O2 sensor regularly.
V8, 100K plus.

Turned out a leak from the rear main seal was gucking it up... so I just had it scraped off regularly till I could get the main seal replaced. But it started fine... only died when it idled.

8. Just a few days.....Truck runs "Ok" even after starting cold and ....
"Check engine light" is on...then when engine light goes off, I feel the surge in power.
At least I'm fairly sure it's not a serious mech. problem. ...

9. Could be something as simple as your battery starting to fail.
First thing I thought of, anyway. If you have an AutoZone, they'll test it for free. They also have the little code readers for free, which will pull the code of whatever was wrong for the Check Engine light to come on.

13. That's the first thing I thought of... You're lucky if you can get a
battery to go five winters, if you live in a harsh winter area. They eventually lose the ability to hold a charge. After it's drive a while, it's all charged up, but that will eventually go. Have the test done when it hasn't gone very many miles. In the end, batteries always die at the worst possible time, like 11 p.m. on a Saturday when the stores are closed and it's -3 outside.

17. Ah, here we go
"You need a new battery."

"No, it's gotta be the starter."

"You crazy? It's the solenoid!"

"Have you changed the muffler bearings lately?"

"The compression is low. Add a can of compression."

No one here is qualified to diagnose an automotive problem without actually testing it. Take the truck to a certified garage.
