"We are experiencing a higher-than-normal call volume. Please continue to hold."

I get this every goddamned time. I can call at 9:01 or at 4:59 or anywhere in between, and it's always the same.

Here's a tip, gas company: if you're that fucking busy, hire a few more people to pick up the phones!

2. My department at work has been like that nonstop for weeks.
Our call volume has gone up and our staffing has actually gone down. These companies are not the smartest companies ever.

5. But don't forget that your call is important to them.
Not important enough to actually answer, of course, but still important...in some indefinable way.

6. and the converse of this
When you're actually in a shop standing at the register with your money out to buy something the phone ringing is always a greater priority than the customer standing in front of them. Weird, innit?
