DU has officially suffered through 20k of my posts.
Edited on Sun Dec-14-08 01:41 PM by Radical Activist
Thank you to those who tolerated my more asinine posts and especially to the DUers who I've had many, many excellent conversations and debates with.

After 20,000 posts I'm showing a pic of myself for the first time.

I'm in that picture. Trust me.

6. Nice
They're always a good time. I haven't been in a while...too long. Those protests destroy the myth that young people aren't doing anything, don't they?

Edited on Sun Dec-14-08 02:01 PM by Ava
yeah, believe it or not.. we have some anti-war folks here in 'bama too... and many of them are students at universities. young people definitely show up for protests... hell, my 16th birthday party was a protest held on the state capitol steps here in bama a few years ago

9. yup.. i planned out and organized the whole thing myself
had about 100 people show up.. which is a decent crowd for alabama, and lots of local musicians showed up and played on the capitol steps. of course, only two of my "friends" showed up since it was a peace rally.

better than some lame "sweet sixteen" party

10. nice!
They should have put your party on the MTV show. I would have actually watched it for once.

Yeah, its funny how many people at my college were afraid of protests right before the iraq war started. Everyone grew up watching videos of violent 60's protests and protests gone bad are the only ones that make the news anymore. We've made a lot of progress with that in the last few years.
I helped organize some protests in the South and you always find out there are more liberals around than you might think.

13. yeah, the protests bring them out of "hiding"
lol.. still though. i can't wait to get out of my small alabama town and leave for college in a few months. i live in a small town in alabama, so there are very few people around here that actually take an interest in politics.. and few of them are democrats(and usually conservative democrats).

16. Yeah, I saw a thread
where you were writing about applying to colleges.

I wish I had thought more about the political and cultural climate of the colleges I applied to. "Responsible" adults didn't think that's the sort of thing I was supposed to be concerned with and its hard to get a sense of it from college guides and tours. I ended up at a good place but I'm giving that a lot more consideration now that I'm thinking about going back to grad school.

Edited on Sun Dec-14-08 03:52 PM by Ava
of course job and internship opportunities are also a big deal for me... especially since i'm going into film. i want to have some work experience in the film industry(even if an unpaid internship) under my belt by the time i graduate.
