1. I really enjoy hanging out with my ex father in law. He's a good guy
If there ever came a big conflict between me & my ex, I expect him to take her side--that's cool. She utterly loathes me and makes no secret (in fact makes quite a big show of her enmity) about it. But her dad & I are on the best of terms.

I rarely hear of anyone who dislikes their in-laws. Most people welcome new members into their family without judgment or jealousy. Whenever I do hear of a friend with in-law issues, it's invariably because they were manipulative, controlling parents who don't know how to encourage their own kids' independence or happiness.

2. Mother-in-law hatred, in my experience, is a popular "me, too" thing. I love my MIL.

She's one of my best friends. Her driving skills sometimes put me on edge, but she's a wonderful, generous, genuine human being who raised a wonderful, generous, genuine son. What's not to love?

P.S. She's also an artist and, besides CMW, she has been the single greatest supporter of my journey as an artist.

3. My s.o. and my family adore each other
We're completely estranged from my s.o.'s family because except for one cool uncle and his wife, they're the most toxic bunch of psychos ever hatched on earth.

4. I don't exactly dislike any of my inlaws...
I don't know most of them really at all. Many of them are jerks...but my sister inlaw is cool.

My wife loves her inlaws. What can I say? My family rocks. :D

5. I have the best MIL ever; my late FIL was a treasure and I miss him
greatly, and all of my husband's siblings and their spouses and kids are just stellar folks...love them all. I've been very blessed in that regard.

6. Ditching my in-laws was one of the best things about getting divorced.
And considering what an abusive asshole my ex was, that should really say something. Then again, they're the reason that he's the prince of a guy that he turned out to be, so no shock there. :eyes:

7. Well my mom is still on excellent terms
Edited on Sat Dec-13-08 04:24 PM by whistler162
with my late fathers sister. Even better terms than he was, even though my parents had been divorced 25 years.

But, then there is my mom and my sister-in-law. Oiiii!!!!!

8. My MIL is crazy
The hospital told her so. But shes a good sort. No hate here at all. The only hitch is the occasional frustration of my model perfect sane self trying to understand the craziness.

9. My in-laws from my first marriage were fucking nuts.
He was an alcoholic, she was a psychologist - they had been divorced and remarried - 5 times! Less said about that, the better.

My second wife - the good one - had parents who were wonderful to me, treated my like real family.

Unfortunately, both are now dead. I miss them like I miss my own mom.
I was very fortunate to have been in their family.
