Little Musical Moments That Stay With You

The Stevie Wonder song thread reminded me of a musical incident I experienced over 20 years ago. At my college station one afternoon, the jock on duty was playing "Very Well," and puttering around the studio, singing harmony. One of the lovliest voices I ever heard and will always remember how she went up on the line, "everything going through your head."

The other one was of a Christmas past, when I lived in Albany, NY, across the street from QE2. A quiet December night was broken by the sound of someone passing under my window, whistling "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen."

Here's to those who aren't superstars and never will be, who bring these little moments that leave such deep imprints on our aural memories.

2. Meatloaf's cameo in Rocky Horror Picture Show

He jammed in on the bike singing something like "hot patootie, bless my soul, you know it's only rock'n'roll" and skeered up the charming freaks at Frankenfurter's party. I found it a breath of fresh air in an otherwise overdone (albeit classic) movie. If they'd featured more Meatloaf music and not eaten the poor boy so quick into the flick, it would've been a real hit.
