Nothing like a little Christmas drama to raise the ol' stress levels...
Making this quick as I can.

My wife doesn't want to go to my home town for Christmas this year due to "needing a break" from my mother (My wife is foreign, so in the US it is only my family.). My mother is devastated and feels that she is being treated unfairly. My wife is sticking to her guns and any discussion between her and me about this issue results in a fight. My mother only wants to talk about this when her and I talk on the phone.

So, yeah, I've got a nice little knotted ball of stress sitting in the middle of my stomach. I hate that family drama bothers me this much.

1. Sounds like the making of an excellent Festivus.
I'd pay to be a fly on the wall during the Airing of Grievances.

3. Do Xmas at your Mom's every other year
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 12:38 PM by LostinVA
But go there for New Year's, or the Day after Xmas. That's fair. Your wife needs a break. Just tell your Mom that sometimes you and your wife want a "romantic Xmas" or something. That's how I got out of Xmas Eve at Haruka's parents last year. They expect family there three days in a row.

Trust me, my parents live 700 miles away, and Haruka's about five. I feel your wife's pain. Tell her to PM me.

4. Wait. - Who told your mother this information- your wife?
Tell your mother you love her and you'll see her another time. If you can afford the trip, go by yourself to your home town on the 28th and 29th.

You have my sympathy. I know intimately what it's like when your family and those you love seem to be pulling you in different directions and everyone's sticking to their guns.
