3. I guess maybe she could be coming down with a case of gay
and you want to keep her home to keep it from spreading.

Normally, I'm not one for involving the little ones in political activities, but, really, who's going to say anything if you keep your kid home?

5. If YOU'D like to do something in solidarity, then why would you keep your daughter home?

Maybe YOU should do something yourself and not use your daughter to make YOUR political statement.

9. Getting kids involved young is a good idea.
It communicates the message that we all have a part to play, and that activism isn't something we can delegate to other people.

4. There seems to be an effort to get people to volunteer tomorrow.
Maybe the two of you can go help out someplace for a few hours?

I wouldn't bother to specify why I was excusing my kid. Frankly, I'm the parent and as long as I'm excusing the kid, the reason why is nobody else's business. But we homeschool, so I don't exactly have to write letters to myself: "Dear LeftyMom, Please excuse LeftyKid from school today..." Probably just as well for all involved.

6. Hmm that is a good idea.
I probably will not excuse her because she has difficulty keeping up as it is. But it is early dismissal day tomorrow, so we will go find somewhere to volunteer!

:hi:

7. We're going to try to do something.
Kind of depends on how well he's cooperating (he's in one of those moods lately) but I'm thinking we'll do our toy weed-out tomorrow (we did clothes last month, though he's growing so fast they're almost due again) and take those in to donate. Time permitting, we're going to go get some food to donate too.

I'll probably take both to a friend of my mother's who does a lot of work with local HIV patients, she probably knows a family in need and can discreetly get things to them directly, rather than going through a big structured charity.

8. not unless it's her idea and her wish to do so
you never label another person gay without their consent, not in this judgmental society

i was just in another thread in GD where apparently some folks think lesbians don't face violence, lack of opportunity, judgment etc. -- i think those folks need to get out more frankly!

it's always up to the individual whether or not they want to take on this label

i make an exception for outing only in the case of those hypocrites who have been openly fighting against gay rights -- i have NO problem w. outing larry craig for hitting on a dude at MSP or * for "hiring" jeff gannon -- because it's because those folks are benefiting from hating on gay folks while still enjoying the pleasures of gay sex themselves

unless and until your daughter suggests this...you don't call in FOR your daughter on something like this

my humble two cents anyway

17. I'll just give them my wife's name

If I had another job lined up, I totally would. It would blow some Freeper minds, and make my officemate crack up hysterically.

Me Calling Tomorrow: "Yea, it's my day off but I just want you to know I swear I would be staying home today because I'm gay."

Them: "Yea we know you're gay. Enjoy your natural day off."

Me: :argh:
