6. It was a bit bittersweet.
That video is like the dog version of the movie "Platoon".

3. That hurts my heart. One of my babes was hit and killed this year
right in front of our house. My husband was trying to get him in the truck and he got loose and took off. A truck flew down the road and smacked him. Right in front of my husband's eyes. It kills me to see animals dead in the road. Bless that little dog's heart for dragging him out of the way.

7. I think animals have a consciousness.
Videos like that, and this one about a signing gorilla really make me think.

8. I have always thought so.
When my babe died this year, my other 2 dogs went into a drepression. They moped around and wouldn't eat for 2 weeks. And now when Bella cries, they get near her as to protect her.

9. What breed are your dogs?
It does seem like the death of dogs affects their sibling dogs.

16. I have a miniature pinscher. The other two are mixed breeds.
Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 11:03 PM by Shell Beau
The one that got run over was a chow/heeler mix and my other is a golden retriever/australian shepherd mix.

Here they are:

mini/pin (or now large pin)

Golden Retriever mix

My beloved Hutch who got run over.

19. It tore me up some kinda bad. I always knew
Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 11:25 PM by Shell Beau
when one of my dogs went, I'd be bad off. These are my first dogs of my very own. Lolly (the obese mini-pin) was my first dog of my own. Not the family dog (even though I always felt like the family dogs were mine). I have had her for 10 years. I am 30. I had my own house and decided to get my own dog. Hutch was next. I got him 3 years later. He was 6 when he passed and was my healthiest dog. He was the skinny mini but was a fighter. He didn't mess around. He was the survivor. He could have been a successful stray. He killed more squirrels, possum, cats, birds, snakes, etc. I thought he was satan. I had to realize it is natural for dogs to do that. I never had a dog that did that though. Hutch was a scrapper. It was so ironic that he died first. We always thought Hutch would be the very last to go.

I was 4 months pregnant when he got run over. I went hysterical. My mom was so worried about me being in such a fragile state already. She was scared my being so upset could harm the baby (now Bella).

It is amazing how much we can love animals. Just posting and seeing his pics gets me. And my poor husband witnessed the whole thing. I am at least thankful I didn't see it happen. Who needs that memory?

RIP Hutch!

12. Great video
I suppose all social animals have that instinct to varying degrees be they members of a herd or pack. I've heard stories of the family dog running into a burning house to save the cat.

Watch a herd of cape buffalo stand up to a pack of lions in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU8DDYz68kM">Battle at Kruger.

15. I was really sad when I first saw it, but from what I have been reading
both dogs made it through. I thought the one that was hit had been killed. This brought tears to my eyes.
