Tipping Etiquette: USPD and UPS delivery person.
Edited on Tue Dec-02-08 06:45 PM by Mike 03
I probably should have learned this years ago, but no one ever taught me.

Is it good manners to give your mail person and delivery people a tip or some sort of gesture of recognition around the holidays?

What is a good (i.e, graceful) way to do it, so it's not too awkward? Do I just hand it to them, or leave it somewhere, or send it somewhere?

Do you give them cash, or a gift, or a gift card?

Just curious. They do work hard, and I would like to clean up my act and do something nice for them this holiday season.

3. Cash. Address it to UPS Delivery Person
Or Mail Carrier and leave it in the appropriate spot.

I do that every year.

5. Yup, cash or a gift card -- and a bottle of liquor and $20 for the garbage guys
It's a nice "thank you," and it results in: your mail carrier putting your package on your porch when it's raining, instead of stuffing it in your mailbox, and your trash guys (all with Italian last names here -- I swear!) will pick up stuff even if it's stuff they aren't supposed to pick up.

4. This old CNN article has a useful guide - according to it, USPS carriers
are technically not allowed to receive tips, but up to $20 is OK...
