Donnie Darko.Is it good?

I've heard about this movie being good and weird but I would love

to get your opinions.

Should I watch it or not ?

I have to choose between Donnie Darko and Hellboy. Those

two movies seems to be good but I can only watch one

of them tonight and I can't make up my mind.

Help! :)

5. Hellboy?
Ok,ok,ok...Well,DS1's opinion means a lot to me but,but I need more input.

What to do?

What's so special about Hellboy compared to Donnie Brasco?

8. wait, do you mean donnie brasco or donnie darko?
COMPLETELY different movies. Hellboy is a visual effects fantasy with great effects, Donnie Darko, on the other hand, also has some special effects but it's more cerebral and will stick with you more, you'll be thinking about it for a few days and probably want to watch it more than once, that's why I went out and bought a copy of my own.

13. Argh!
Sorry.I got mixed up.I meant Darko.

It sounds like a very cool movie.

How many time did you see it?

(If it's none of my business feel free to tell me)

I already started Hellboy but I'm so intrigued by

all the comments about Donnie Darko that you

can be sure that I'll watch it.

Thanks a lot for the infos peruban, I

really appreciate it.

23. I must have watched that movie close to a dozen times.
Jake Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, Mary McDonnell, Patrick Swayze, and Jena Malone all play notable performances in it. In fact, I'm about to put it in the dvd player now, since I've worked myself up for it so much.

11. It's an artsy emo bullshit peddler
Hellboy is the superior movie of the two, even if it's not very good

Donnie Brasco is better than both

2. Donnie Darko, all the way!
I think it's a really good movie. Hellboy was ok, but not nearly as good as Donnie Darko.

3. Two words:
"Hell" and "Yes". It's better if you can get your hands on the director's cut, it explains things more but your mind will still get blown in any case.

6. About director's cut...
I think that was on IMDB that some people said that it was better to see

the original before the director's cut.Do you agree?

7. Not really.
The director's cut just breaks it up into chapters with quotes from the "time traveler" book the main character gets obsessed with. If you see the original version first, watching the director's cut just makes things clearer. Might as well get the whole picture the first time around, IMO.

12. DD is far superior, IMO. One of the few movies I've watched twice
and enjoyed. Others include "The Graduate" and "Harold and Maude," and that's about it. (DD is like a modern "Graduate," but very dark and edgy.)

The first 30 or so minutes of Hellboy are excellent, then it becomes a typical Hollywood flick. Maybe I'd have liked the movie more if I hadn't read the comics, though.

If "very dark and edgy with a high WTF factor" doesn't appeal to you, go with Hellboy, though.

16. high WTF factor
Mmm...WTF factor...

Yes I love that kind of movies.

Right now I'm watching Hellboy but DD is the next movie I'll

watch.I pretty much decided to see it by flipping a coin (Well

not literally)and so far so good.Entertaining.

You said: "The first 30 or so minutes of Hellboy are excellent"

I'm at about 14 min. and it's pretty good but after the 30 min. I

hope it doesn't get too lame.:)

17. HB is one of the better "comic-book" movies out there, FWIW. I hope you find it
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 09:18 PM by metapunditedgy
enjoyable. If you haven't read the comics, I'd highly recommend them. They take a bit of getting used to, but they're unique and very stylized and (after you get used to them) very fun to read. The movie is a bit of a let-down because it doesn't convey the style very well.

21. I've never read even a single frame of the Hellboy comic
But I loved the film from start to finish. Very well constructed, though I accept what you say about its weakness in conveying the style of the book.

It's a thinker, and kind of strange, but a very good movie.

I own it. I do not own Hellboy.

27. Depends what you're in the mood for.
Donno Darko is more of a mindfuck "WTF did I just watch?" movie. Hellboy is some fun action. I personally enjoyed both, but I went into both with no expectations.
