it's good fun if your into policy type stuff. The Democrats there are by and large cool, and a number of the Repubs are good folks. Some are just nuts though.

I know I've called them wingnuts (and worse) sometimes--I could swear we warned you about that before you went over!

It is an interesting game. It's on line-- so that means it is free and it really can teach you (or rather force you to learn!) about aspects of our government. Earlier this year, I got into a BIG study of recess appointments to the Courts because of something happening on the sim.

AS it was going on, sure enough, shrub recess appointed someone to a federal court seat. (So did I--but I'm a Dem President and my appointees were all people the GOPiglets had blocked for being "too librul.")

We run the gamut on subjects over there just about like the RL Senate does--everything from foreign trade to domestic issues to funding VA hospitals. I do suggest it for anybody who is interested in learning more about the governmental process and in walking a couple baby steps in Dashle or Byrd's shoes. I'm a LOT less critical of them now that I've been doing this for a while...

then go to the clerks office and pick a state and senate name. Proceed to the Senate floor and take the oath of office. Then go to the DNC sign in, we'll then get you war room access.

This all might take a little while, but it's well worth it.

15. I feel the same way

I gave up on debating righties a long time ago. Not because I am unable to debate (as they like to claim) but because it's an excercise in futility. With some people, you might stand a chance of letting them see the light, but for people who are strong enough in their convictions to do this, there's no chance of getting anywhere. Just as there's no chance of them getting anywhere with us. Your brick wall analogy is perfect.

17. I find it keeps me sharp.

I LOVE DU for the support it gives me, but I also found I was losing my chops debating unless I did it more often than just at the office and at election time. I DO understand not wanting to sign on for it--it isn't for everyone--but if you like debate it can be a lot of fun.

We need good Dems over there--and it doesn't matter if you are as left wing as I am or a conservative Dem--we have all kinds of Dems and we manage to keep it together. Part of the learning curve for a lot of folks is to see that the real strength of the DNC does lie in our diversity.

One thing I have worked hard to foster over there is an acceptance of all our Dems--not just a few that hold a select set of views. I figure if they can accept me as a Dem Socialist the least I can do is accept them for being LBJ type Dems (or even more conservative!)

I've taken hits from the GOP for coming to DU and bringing my "radical buddies" over there--but the reality is that it does take a bit of commitment to the political process and to the Dem views to keep going in there and learn your way around. DUers excel at that kind of thing!

21. See the thing I've learnt about republicans..

They do not want to debate.. hell I doubt they know the meaning of the word.

Their idea of a "debate" is to come in (angry) and just shove their opinions(often backed up by rightwing pages like newsmax) in your face, and when you disagree they call you stuff. They have no intention of debating just pushing their opinion and just ignoring anyone not agreeing with them.

26. Some of our GOP is not even THAT sophisticated.

Some, however are capable of interesting discussion and debate. It runs the gamut--just like DU does, really. I will tell you that certain Senators on there are noted for being a PITA (Pain In The A$$)and I've seen times when moderate GOP members actually are critical of them in public. THAT is always fun to see.

WE have some real doozies on there--guys who love the confederate battle flag and some who live to post Right to Life press releases. We also have some Senators who are normal folks who just have different views that we do.

I dunno if you'd enjoy it or not... It is difficult for me to predict how some folks will feel about it. If you want to smack snot outta some GOP buffoons it can be fun.
