We found out earlier this evening that my husband's been laid off
His job has been given to his assistant. He was a senior implementation manager for a software company. :woohoo:

There's only one problem. The assistant a) isn't technical, and b) doesn't know how to do the job. Period.

Welcome to the Bush economy. :fistbump: I'll be taking hugs, if anyone wants to give one out...

Julie

2. Heidi, thank you so much
We're in the same boat with a lot of other people. It's time to figure out how we can all get through this. ;-)

We're thinking of you and CMW, and hoping everything's wonderful for you.

4. Multiple hugs
my job a designer and platemaker/engraver for a printing company lasted 19 years until 13 months ago when I was laid off. Plumbed the depths of despair until today when I scored a part time job at a department store...January 20th cannot come soon enough...

6. I'm sorry. That's just vile. But moves like that will probably drive that company into the ground
within a year. Silver lining, maybe.

8. this has been going on ever since bush seized power
millions and millions and millions of us...

...laid off, replaced by incompetents and then the company folds.

I know over a hundred such stories just here in the backwaters of Colorado--ten of them involving me personally.

9. Hugs your way for sure...
:grouphug:

We've had the first wave of layoffs here at my work... more threatened in January. Last time people who didn't deal directly with the public were spared. Come January I don't know...

Mark.

11. Vibes to you and your husband Julie.
My whole industry (mortgage) is going down the tubes. Seems like this economy is a nightmare we can't wake up from. It'll get better, just going to take some time. *Sigh* Hang in there!

Sorry about your hubby's job, Julie.

I've been laid off for the past month myself.

15. Hugs to you and your whole family. My son worked for a software
company that on the first workday of the new year 2008 greeted 3/4 of the technical support department, walked them through human resources and out the door with one month's severance: moving
tech support to India. Hired contract workers to replace them.

Happy ending for my son. Six weeks later he was hired, at more pay, with a local city government
to do tech support. He has his own office with a window, a more varied work day, and is happily
learning web design on the job. We hope he has a more secure job as things are going from bad to worse
here in the Triangle area, which has been somewhat immune to job layoffs until recently.

Best of luck to your hubby in finding a new job.

16. PS--This is a tech job website that we discovered which generated several interviews
for my son when he was looking:
