So many people in management are useless and stupid in media. I was talking with some senior people last night and they were telling me about how all of the managers at work could never cut it in the field doing the work that takes brains, so they ended up in management making more money and ruining things set up by their GOOD predecessors. It's seemed to hit around the 80s, all the old timers who were excellent retired and morons were put in their place.

I was just thinking about how anyone I've ever worked under who I had respected and admiration for completely differs from the people in charge. At the lower level of things when I worked in medium sized markets I worked with amazing, patient people who helped me and taught me. When I got to major market, it was the people who were techically my peers, but WAY more experienced that I relied on for guidance. None of them were ever management.

1. I'm in academia - we can fail up, down, side-to-side, and inside-out
There are no limits to the levels of douchebaggery open to people with nothing to lose... :)

2. It's called the Peter Principle. People will rise to the level of the incompetence.

4. More like the Peter Principle ...
I'm in media too...broadcast sales. Our GM was excellent in sales but is a horrible manager.

That's usually the way it goes in a sales organization though. People get promoted for their success in sales but have no clue about managing a sales force or company. Crazy..as many years as I've been in sales that has never changed.

5. I'm in the biopharmaceutical industry so umm YEAH!
I'm fortunate in that I seem to be currently working for a company that has actual scientists and competant ones at that up with the corporate types..Far from common in this industry sadly..(part of the reason I think why we have such a bad rep)

7. If what you say is true
then you need to think about another company. Why waste your time and talent in a company with such loser managers?
