9. Babykins, will it be hooked up through the nose or her abdomen?

My mom had both; the abdominal one was preferable to her.

It's not that bad, really it's not. I know it's difficult to think about, but it should be fine.

They do have alarms that go off if the tube gets blocked or the pump stops working for some reason. They are usually pretty easy to re-set, though. Make sure you and your brother and anyone else who will be around her for any length of times learns how it works, and how to troubleshoot.

Also be aware that it make take some adjusting of the dose (i.e. how much of the formula goes through the tube per hour).

But really, it's okay. I know you're freaked, but in my experience with my mom, it's not as bad as you might fear it will be.

That's SOP for patients with ALS.

It's not the actual tube that upsets me, it's what it means re: the progression of her disease. Also, how we are going to handle it as a family. I'm 100 miles from home, my brother works 9-5, my sister is MIA since my Mom got sick. I'm just...terribly worried and anxious.
