Man, pills DON'T make crazy go away they just supress it
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 09:01 PM by HEyHEY
Two and a half years on meds for OCD and I was humming along fine. Off for three months and today I'm a fucking basketcase. I've been wanting to throw up for about 20 hours now as the stress is so great and I've decided that I don't care if it's Sunday, I'm having some booze to loosen up.
There's been a lot going on in life though and that could be a contributor. I'm trying to channel all the stuff I realized when ON meds to try to get me to calm the fuck down. Fighting your own brain is a bitch.

5. I think I fried my seratonin receptors
with a few years of ample dosing of St Johns Wort. My slight OCD is gone baby, gone.

11. Well, at least for now, I got the ball game and some drinks
And next week I'm moving back with my folks for a month cause I couldn't find a decent new apartment. I think I need to be at home now. In such states, you need mom and dad there.

17. Started on voddy, now having a southern comfort
Not the IDEAL solution, but fuck it I need to chill and tomorrow this should all be okay. Then I'll go see the doc.

Hope it works out well for you. Besides, not like you're mixing meds with booze, right?

10. umm hello..
They do work...But there is NO CURE for mental illness...And people who go off medicines often very much regret it. Mental illness is a BIOLOGICAL problem that the meds treat.
You just made the equivalent argument of fundies who think homosexuality is a behavior that can be changed..uh no!
Would you like me to post scientific article after article about the violence committed by the mentally ill who have gone off their medicines?
PET PEEVE--This kind of advice is DANGEROUS and IRRESPONSIBLE to the extreme.
Says the BIOLOGIST AND person who does well on anti-depressents.

20. Worse? Hah, hah. You've never met me "off my meds."
Much less lived with me.

The crazy don't ever wash off, but the meds keep me functional in ordinary society.

13. Oh yeah, we talk about it and figured "Okay, let's give it a shot"
From the beginning the doc said this was not a permanent solution and we were just trying to "Get those neurons working"

14. I look at it this way .. why stop the meds ?
A diabetic won't stop his meds after a while if they are working....

Why is it not ok and take mental health meds for life.

16. The doc said we'd try them to get my brain working right
My big reason for going off them was that I wasn't laughing anymore and the OCD seemed to be gone.

24. Yup.
A small pill every evening is a small price to pay for relative sanity. By that I mean anxiety is controlled. It does nothing for the Asperger's type symptoms.

28. Bridgit: it was a bit of a mixed message there
And I honestly don't get what you mean. And, franky, if you mean I'm in for worse, it's a bit scary, but if you're making light of it that's more refershing. I just don't get the sentence, and I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just honestly don't get it.

29. Very well then, let's review...whoops, some of your OP has been altered, that's fine...
I thought I caught a piece of depressants drifting past, maybe wrong could be me but amitriptolene (not a doctor, do your own research, etc, you know the rules) is a compound that will slow...you........down..................to say the least. Mellow one out so as to say. But as referred to...so much so that one will need to be somewhere near a pillow cause it will drift one's head down onto said pillow in very, very short order again...assuming it, the pillow, is somewhere near by = sweet chem dreams
