Women - if this man tried to pick you up in the bar would you seriously fall for it?
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 11:57 AM by LynneSin

Unable to find my remote control I watched the WORST reality TV show where this guy claims he's some sort of Master pickup artist and that he can teach his techniques to everyone including 10 losers in love. This guy talked about using 'wingmen' and accessories as 'props'

Honestly, if I saw a guy like this hit on me I'd probably accidently spit beer on his face from laughing too hard at him.

He's used "pookie-muffin" once or twice. And "dumbfuck." Several times.
Never "sweetheart" though.

43. I vote no.
I haven't dated a guy in eye make-up since 1987. It's so warmed over "was once cutting edge (say when Bowie did it in 1973) and now it is just a desperate attempt to treat re-hashed ideas like brand new ideas."

14. I saw that show...
he was kind of a tool. One of his assistants/wingmen was actually really actually good at attracting women...of course, that guy (the muscular hispanic guy) did nothing that this idiot was teaching.

He initiated conversations with confidence.
He listened to what women were saying.
He showed interest, came across as intelligent, straight-forward and slightly-dangerous.

37. Yeah, I didn't realize until recently just how few men realize that's all it takes.
Confidence without assholishness.
Ability to have a start and have a conversation.

... that's pretty much it. After that, either there'll be chemistry or there won't. And it's far better to be yourself and get slapped down than to be fake and get a girl who isn't going to like you once she figures you out. The guys who know that are the ones who are able to show that kind of confidence without trying though. Because they're not worrying about getting shot down. :P

My big problem is that I'm anti-social and strange enough that the conversation part isn't easy unless I already know that they're my type. But I realize that's my problem, so I deal with it as best I can.

28. I accidentally saw that show back when I still had cable
My comments:

1. I would definitely laugh in the face of anyone who looked like that, even more so when I was actually in his target age group. His voice and mannerisms are even worse than his looks.

2. The guys he chooses share the basic problems that all the dating losers face a) They're boring and bland and even LOOK boring and bland, b) They think they deserve someone "hot" as defined by the media, and c) They think that there's some magic "line" that will get women panting after them.

3. The settings they go to pick up women are guaranteed to be overpopulated by bright-eyed daughters of Valley Girls who have maybe enough brains to be Sarah Palin if they pool their resources.

Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 02:37 PM by pitohui
in one case (it was a foreign country) i let the guy buy me a glass of wine and practice his english but the MULTIPLE "props" plus the truly odd goth/emo "wingman" he had along for the ride were really distracting and i wonder if that technique really works all that well -- it certainly doesn't seem like it's destined for success with someone my age

no chance w. me as i'm married and NOT in search of complications for my life

yeah it does look ridiculous, i think "harmless" was the look the guy might be going for, but definitely "ridiculous" is a good label

the guy i met did not have the hat but nor did the guy have all his hair either....hmmm...maybe it was him! i'm thinking this guy looks younger but maybe it's because i can't see the (lack of) hair under that thing

I'd just think it was some guy on a bet. His drunk friends told him, "Put this hat and scarf on and see what chicks you can pickup, twenty dollars."

44. Did anyone else pick up on the giant 80s earrings, the black "emo" nail polish
and the fake lipstick kiss on his neck Is that a tattoo? -- WTF is that?)?

I saw one episode of this show, and it was so ridiculous! He had each guy go into a bar and try to start a conversation by going up to a group and saying "Hey I need your opinion on something." Um, like wouldn't get old after the second time? No wonder girls just started turning away and ignoring them by like the sixth guy. I had to turn it off. It was just silly.

Hey, can anybody else smell really, really bad cologne, like Old Spice? Or am I being attacked by the ghost of a wanna be pickup artist?
