900 dead bodies floating off Bolivar Peninsula!! Jesse Jackson says Obama drowned them!!!!!
Why do rumors and outlandish lies get hundreds of responses, whereas facts and cautious analysis sink like stones?

6. Because scary needs a response and reassuring stuff doesn't.
When was the last time you responded to your house not being on fire? :silly:

7. Nonsense.
It wasn't Obama. It was Hugo Chavez. That's why it happened on the Bolivar Peninsula, silly. :P

9. Ok, I don't find this funny.
Hurricane Ike was only a month ago, people did die on Bolivar, many bodies are still missing.

Many people like my friend lost their homes.

No, there is nothing funny about this nonsense.

11. You weren't here for the rumor fest.
Someone posted that a friend of hers was on a city council and had heard from an insurance adjuster (later changed to the head of rescue operations) that there was a no-fly zone over Bolivar Peninsula because there were 900 bodies floating in the Gulf. A few of us tried to tell the poster that the same rumors spread after Katrina and every other hurricane and natural disaster, but the OP stuck to the story, and a lot of DUers joined in with the "I knew it!" posts, and I have no idea how many hundreds of posts the thread created.

Despite some of the responses, my post was bitter, not funny. The Jesse Jackson bashing flamefest was raging on several threads, and a couple of us posted the facts about the quotes and the story, and the facts sunk, and the garbage got all the attention.

I don't find it funny, either. I waited three days to hear from my parents after Katrina, and two weeks to find out about some friends who lived near the beach, and for some of that time I had to hear all the 900 bodies floating or hanging from trees stories, too.

12. We are still waiting to hear about a couple that are missing,
We tried to get them to leave but they wanted to see how bad it would get before they decided to go.

If the bodies are not found soon, mother nature will take of things.

I didn't mean to suggest you thought it was funny.

We are still living with Ike, it doesn't end because the storm goes away.

We went to the coast, it will be awhile before everything get close to normal again.

I took pictures but they are hard to look at right now.

I miss my gulf coast, it was a old friend.

15. Sorry to hear it.
Hope it turns out as well as it can.

I know the feeling of seeing your home town washed away. I hadn't lived in Mississippi for 20 years or so when Katrina hit, and it still upset me. I remember standing on the beach in front of a washed out landmark and just crying. I can only imagine how much more painful it must be for you, since this was your daily life.

Deepest sympathies.

19. I think the couple stayed behind to ride out the hurricane.
They loved the area where they lived.

We will miss them.

14. I had a huge oak tree uprooted in my front yard.
And I'm in Houston. It was damn rough in Houston. Power lines down every where, walls of trees and branches 8 feet tall dragged to the curb.

18. We had some strong wind hit us in Houston.
The second part of Ike did the damage in our neighborhood.

We had two telephone poles break at the top, and lines down everywhere.

We lost several trees I really liked, I will miss them.

We were without power for two weeks.

Hope everything is OK with you and your family now.

17. Talked to someone working in the clean up there last night.
They said there are hundreds "unaccounted for".
Many think they were just swept out to sea.
