First of all, thank you to all of you who shared such beautiful music with me in response to my request below for help on the memorial slideshow for my friend. This has been a very emotional day for me, as I sort through his photographs and his work. The music you all suggested is so sad, but at the same time, it is uplifting. It resonates with the pain of loss, but also with the common threads of humanity that tie us all together.
I don’t get serious very often in here. I look around, and I see a lot of grief, loss, pain, and loneliness amidst the fun and the irreverence. It’s overwhelming sometimes – so overwhelming that I have to avert my eyes, because I feel as though my stranger’s eyes are invasive. And so, I post my silliness and my wisecracks, in an effort to perhaps make someone smile, or to lighten a day, because maybe that will help. It helps me personally to shake off my own sadness, if nothing else.
During my travels through youtube today, I came upon one video that I think might be of some comfort to some of you who are struggling. It’s called an “Irish Blessing.” Yes, it speaks of God, but as I’m not particularly religious, I substituted my own interpretation of the wishes it contains.
I hope that it may be of comfort to some of you who are suffering. It is the blessing I leave with you all today, in honor of my friend David, who believed first and foremost in comforting the afflicted, and afflicting the comfortable. I miss him very much.
