How do you add your own gif avatar to your profile? I've seen people
using their own (rather than the ones provided by DU) but can't figure out how they are getting them to show up on their pages.
According to DU, you can only use their avatar images....and the profile page won't allow you to enter any but the DU gifs.

1. I don't think you have seen people using their own avatars.
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 04:17 AM by umcwb
Right now, the only avs you can use are the ones listed in profile options. There has been talk of allowing donors the option of importing their own in the future, but right now, we can only use which are available in that list.

You could try submitting avatars to admin in the Ask the Administrators forum. This was done in this thread here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=120&topic_id=276&mesg_id=276
and Skinner responds several times.

Hope this helps! :hi:

On edit: dumb grammar mistake

2. Thanks. I thought I saw the animated underwear and a few others in use.

I think someone has a dragon too, that moves across their page.

Not a big deal. Just thought maybe there was a way and I didn't know how to do it.

3. No problem
I can't say I have ever seen an animated underwear avatar. Come to think of it, I have never seen an animated avatar period. That would be kinda cool....

5. what do you call the animated images that people are using?
I'm guessing avatar is the name of a gif file? Sorry, not a techie, so don't know the language.

6. avatars are
the images on the left of the text area. The dragon and underpants are in peoples' signature lines. I don't know exactly how they do that either, but that's the root of your confusion.

7. Thanks. Yes that's it exactly.
I just wanted to plug in my own gif in the avatar space next to the text. I'm not nearly so knowledgable or ambitious as to create an animated feature.

But yeah, now that you point it out, the avatar gifs and the animated features in the sig lines are two different things.

8. you're welcome
PS if you go to The Meeting Room, there is generally a thread called HTML tricks and tips (or something similar) going, and you could learn how to do cool stuff if you wanted.

12. The animated underwear is not an avatar. It is a graphic that
was added to the sig line.
