What happens to all the food...

On cooking shows? I mean, the finished dishes, the leftovers from the preparation? Like on Food Network; I can't imagine how much food they use in a day! I'm sure the crews eat at least some of it, but surely not all. Wonder if they donate it, toss it out...? :shrug:

Or any kind of shoot for anything, a movie, etc..

You'd know that the crews are ravenous hordes who expect to be fed. That's been my experience.

They throw it all out!

For each recipe displayed on a show, they make about 3-5 "show pieces" for presentation.

After these pieces are cooked, they are "cosmetically enhanced" by using...well, I won't mention it here.

The bottom line is...most of the finished products are un-edible due to "cosmetic enhancements" or due to prolonged exposure in unsafe temperatures.

The strategy is employed at all levels of "food" promotion.

I used to do some prop production for culinary magazines and TV shows during my days in college.

The food that's being cooked "on spot" are devoured by the set crew and the audience.

However, there are a lot more food being thrown out during the production of the shows/presentation.

6. They can't donate food like that

I bet the crew eats it. There are lots of restrictions on what kind of food can be donated. That's why cafeterias and restaurants can't donate leftovers.
