any hints on clipping a cat's butt?
I know. I don't want to tutch the butt. But the beautiful cat I rescued two days ago now has dried feces all 'round the butt, and I believe it's going to have to be clipped away to make her comfortable.

Any hints? I have no idea how this cat is going to react to being so humiliated and manhandled.

1. Can you take her to a groomer?

2. we were thinking a groomer wouldn't want to deal with the poo
...also, I think it can't wait until tomorrow. I'm sure the hair is pulling and uncomfortable.

3. Get a helper.
Wrap her up in a towel as much as you can, then the helper holds her tight close to the body, while you give the dingleberries a gentle tug away from the body and trim off as much as you can, keeping in mind that you'll need to work as fast as you can without risking cutting her. Give a treat afterward so she'll start getting used to the idea.

I used to have to do this all the time when I had long-haired cats. Keeping them trimmed up back there gets easier with time.

7. Did you give her a bath?
Cats don't like that but that's what I had to do a coupla times with one guy I rescued. He had been starving and lacked the energy to groom himself. He's just fine now but it took a long time for him to fully recover. If you have to tutch the but roll her up in a towel first.

8. If she's skittish, I'd suggest taking her to the vet for trimming.

You probably want to get her checked out, anyway. And they'll be faster than you are, and there will be more than one of them, LOL. It took three vet techs to trim my eight pound dog... *sigh*

Also, they have one of those trimmers, which makes fast work of my little dog's butt, and it's quick and painless.:-)

Also, if she needs to be sedated, they can do that. too. My vet (it took three of us) had to sedate the cat that I rescued the first time I brought her in. But it turned out that she had very bad teeth, must have been in pain, and she practically turned into a lap cat after necessary dental surgery... :loveya:

Good luck with this and kudos to you!:yourock:

9. Get a horse shaver--I used it on my Afghan dog
Get another perosn to help you hold the kittie, then just shave off the hair and poop! It's easier than trying to use scissors. THough the kittie might freak out when she hears the sound of the shaver, so that's where the friend comes into it. The towel idea is a good one.

Good luck!
