Poll question: How many calories do you usually intake in a day?
I try to restrict myself to around 2,000.

1. I have no idea!
Sometimes very little, sometimes a good few thousand (damn you butter & cheese!). I don't keep track. Hell, I don't own a scale. And I never will.

I rock my buddha belly just fine. :D

As long as it doesn't grow into monster gut, I'm all good. :)

3. I'm sure I exceed that some days
I love whole milk dairy products. It's obscene. But, no matter what, I hold steady at 135, for over a year or so. Every damn time I weigh myself at my parents' house, 135, give or take a pound. I think I balance it out with the days that I just don't eat or something. Stress makes me lose my appetite.

The scale is in the livingroom, so I can't resist. :P

4. I would guess between 2000 and 2500 a day
I eat all day everyday. Small amounts. I don't watch my fat intake and I eat high protein. I stay away from high carb foods.

My cholesterol level is low. The Dr said people would 'pay' me to have my numbers :)

I love butter, cheese, eggs, cream. I cannot tolerate milk though. I use 1/2 and 1/2 on breakfast cereal and that doesn't bother me.

7. It really depends on the day.
Some days I get by on a Pot Noodle (290 calories), and a half-footlong at Subway - I suppose about 1000 calories one day.

Then the next I'm probably doing 3000.

I really need to sort my diet and exercise plan out - of which both are really non existent.

Mark.

Not conciously on a diet...I just have lost interest in eating for various reasons.

I lost 5 lbs just by not having the desire to drink soda anymore.

31. Thanks! Me too (hard)
I'm retired and post menopausal....for all the time I've been on this low cal diet I'm averaging a one pound per week loss. I power walk six days per week and do Yoga for five days. I also have two large dogs that get two walks per day, so one would think with all of that I would have lost it faster.

Don't give up mvd. You can do it!! :hi:

I've been fitting in more Weight Watchers meals, and most are pretty good. I like walking the most, but perhaps the exercise bike would take pounds off faster. :hi:

42. with all that activity you are converting fat to muscle ..which is denser. The key
is are your clothes getting smaller?

and how tall are you?

staying on 1000 per day will get you a fast weight loss early on but as you lose, the pounds per week will get smaller because you have less to lose. If your body thinks you are starving it, you may get backlash and begin to gain.

don't short yourself on proteins and take your vitamins.

I lost 56 with Weight Watchers, at an average of a pound per week. I had weeks with no loss at all, followed by a drop of several pounds, everyone is different

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE WEIGHT LOSS BY THE WAY.

Isn't it great to feel good?

44. at 5'8" and 150 pounds, WW would tell you to STOP and go to maintenance
especially at your activity level.

I am 5'4" and set my goal @ 140 although I prefer to keep it around 135 which isn't all that hard, I just have to track everything I eat. So when I catch myself creeping up on 140, I go back to hard nosed tracking and point managing and pull it back down to a better neighborhood

Best wishes on your weight loss. I know I don't hurt as much as I used to

38. That depends on the phase of my diet.
Two phases: bulking and dieting. Bulking is probably around 3000/day. Dieting is probably around 2000/day, but it's a lot more quality protein so the muscle doesn't starve. This is spread out over 5 or 6 meals a day. This is pretty much a guess, as I don't really count calories. I know what I should and shouldn't have depending on what I'm trying to do.

41. I don't count them but I count Weight Watcher Points. So if I am trying to lose
it may be around 1500 per day and if I am maintaining up to 1800 at most.

it is all relative to height and activity too. The taller you are, the more calories you need to just maintain the current weight.

49. about 2500.
I remember when I first went on a diet, they told me make a food journal and count everything I ate in a day. I had guestimated to the doc that I ate about 3000 calories a day. Well, it turned out that I was actually consuming about 4500 calories a day. The doctor said that many overweight people underestimate the amount of calories they are eating and many thin people overestimate the amount they eat.
