Other than DU, name some websites that don't suck
and why, pray tell, don't they suck?

Other than what I get my news and junk from, I can't think of more than a small handful, so please help save me from the tragedy of wasting my life in deprivation of all that is truly magnificent on this glorious network of intertubes.

1. CommonDreams is pretty cool.
LivesStrong is the blog of a girl living in Iraq. Tierry y Liberdad posted a link to it once, which is how I found out about it.

NationStates is funfunfun. You get to make your own imaginary country.

I like The Icarus Project, but you'd only fit in there if you're radically anti-authoritarian and anti-monoculture and have some form of mental illness.

6. CNet, Snopes, IMDB, RottenTomatoes, and Audible.
CNet give tech information and reviews. Snopes debunks. IMDB is a great movie resource. Rotten Tomatoes collects movie reviews and information in one place. Audible sells audio books to download in highly compressed format, for reasonable prices.

7. Mainstream politcal sites? Alternet and Buzzflash are good.
They don't suck because Alternet isn't run by idiots, and Buzzflash is like the hooligan in the liberal website crowd, and I love them for it.

13. Um, I get all my news from Plime and Fark.
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 10:56 PM by vixengrl
I know--that's sad, right? And I-mockery.com for humor and reviews of comics, movies, games and such. There are awesome B-movie and action movie reviews at http://schlocktoberfest.com/. And I like cracked.com for lists and the blog is sometimes pretty funny.

I read a completely stupid number of blogs a day or I feel like I'm missing stuff-- http://talkingpointsmemo.com and http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/ are probably my favorites, but I like such diverse voices as http://olliverwillis.com and http://bartcop.com, oh, and http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/ (I read them because each blogger has a definite style and an interesting voice that appeals to me.) And I make the rounds to http://blog.iblamethepatriarchy.com/ , http://pandagon.net/ , http://punkassblog.com/ , http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/ ... (I have a disease, I think they call it hyperlexia. Anyway, I totally read much bloggage. But all of the above have interesting perspectives.)

I'd tell you to read my blog, but it sucks. It's just stuff I lifted from Plime and Fark, with movie and book reviews thrown in and the occasional liberal political rant (http://vixenstrangelymakesuncommonsense.blogspot.com/).

I kind of think huffingtonpost.com is worthwhile if you have a lot of time to kill (I think of it as being like the Sunday edition of a major newspaper, everyday--bigtime content). In real life, when I'm not kidding, I actually get all my news from buzzflash.com. Oh, and I go to http://boingboing.net more than a bit. And if you like scifi, the best site evah! is http://io9.com/ .
