5. it really makes you consider fate or destiny
a million things came together for that unbelievable finish.

Did you hear Mark Spitz call him the greatest Olympian ever?

10. Yeah. If he had taken that extra stroke he'd have won.
That thoughts probably going to be with him the rest of his life.

If "Wide World of Sports" was still on he'd be the new "Agony of Defeat" guy.

6. The Ravens are opening the stadium for Phelp's 8th attempt
WBAL just said the Ravens are opening the stadium after the game to anyone who wants to come in and watch the race on the big screen.

7. I'd rather drown than lose like that
Only the slightest exaggeration.

Unbelievable. I attended all the swimming events at Barcelona '92 and it's incredible how many races are determined by who hits the wall after a full stroke and who glides in.

There's no way I would glide in. I remember the fans around me and I were emphasizing that in '92. Even if I pulled my hands back inches from the wall to take another stroke it would be easier to live with that than losing because I chose to coast the final foot or so.

9. I swam the 1650 free in college.
At the end of one of those I was lucky if I didn't just sink to the bottom. Coasting to the wall often seemed a good idea back then.

But I was never anything like what you would consider Olympic material.
