i should not be tempted to turn my heat on in august
but i am. i'm bundled up, curled up under a blanket and i'm still chilly. it's been raining since about midnight with no sign of it letting up.

but i'm not complaining. we need the rain and although it's been a milder summer than we've had in a few years, it's nice to not have to deal with the horrible heat we usually get in august. still, it's weird to be so cold this time of year and it was a bit of a shock when i noticed i could see my breath.

anyone else having odd weather right now?

1. It's a hundred degrees here -
Not unusual at all for Boise in August, but I'd love a little cold snap right about now.

3. i would be wishing for a cold snap, too
parts of the mountains here have gotten about six inches of snow. i don't know for sure if that's unusual for this time of year (trail ridge road in rocky mountain national park is likely to be shut down for the season within the next four to six weeks), but it's still an odd thought.

5. i've got the reverse here
no a/c. not much of a need for it, really, and i don't see the point in getting one if i'm only going to use it for less than a couple of months out of the year. plus, it always cools off overnight here, even in the hottest parts of the summer.

i don't know how people live with such heat, i'm about ready to melt if it gets much about 85.

6. sweat and liquids
as long as i can sweat and drink water i'm a-ok. After a good sweat i feel 100% better. It's like something is expunged and you feel lighter.

4. yep
we are having weird weather this summer, aren't we?

I'm kind of liking it, except I had to drive across town this afternoon. Traffic was really heavy.

I've looked at the thermostat a couple times today and debated turning it on, but opted not to.

Happy rainy weekend to you! :hi:

i also noticed unusually heavy traffic in my town today, especially since it was about 3:30 and raining

i'm not sure what part of the state your in, but be safe...i just saw that denver, boulder, fort collins and all of the plains are on a flood watch until sunday morning.

happy rainy weekend to you, too :hi:

8. I-70
was closed at the Eisenhower tunnel for some amount of time, so all the eastbound traffic got backed up. Westbound as well, but I don't think it was as heavy going that direction. The tunnel open about 2:00, so all that backed up traffic coming east hit Denver, probably starting about 2:30 or 3:00 (?)

And accidents in Denver slowed things a bit. At one place, about I-70 and Quebec, there was an accident on each side of the highway. Like someone saw the one, and hit their brakes, causing the 2nd or something.

And with the heavy rain, it just slows things, so traffic tends to build up more.

9. sounds a mess
what makes me craziest is how people seem to forget how to drive in the rain. yeah, i know water is falling from the sky, but it's not necessary to go 15 or 20 miles under the speed limit (at least it wasn't up here) x(

16. driving depends on where you are
I was driving about 50, except in the couple places that traffic was gong about 2. It depends on visibility, cars around you spraying water up off the pavement, mist hanging in the air. It's always important to remember one has to be able to stop too.

I pretty much always drive with the idea of keeping a decent amount of stopping room in front of me. My preference is to be able to see the vehicle in front of the vehicle in front of me, but that isn't always possible.

27. Does that tunnel flood?
It's been about 6 years since I took that road, but I seem to remember that being a really long ass tunnel. How long would it take to get all the traffic out of there if they had to close it due to a flash flood. Certainly ain't no place to be stuck if a wall of water is coming at ya.

Surf's up!!

29. dunno
it's just under 1.7 miles long, so it would take - probably not too awful long, depending on how idiot and panicked the people driving through it were.

I don't think flash flooding is a high danger, but certainly nothing is impossible.

Here's a picture of the west approach - the east side of the tunnel is slightly lower elevation, about 100 feet, so it would flood west to east if it did.

10. It's been cold and wet
but it's been kinda nice. Parts of town started to get rain kinda early last night...Sky Sox got rained out by 8:30 and we were getting dumped on before 9 (I'm downtown)...but when I went home (up at the north end of town) about 1 a.m., things were dry. Until about 3 a.m. It's been raining ever since, no matter where you are in town. We aren't under one of the flood advisories down here, though.

So...I went to the grocery store for chocolate chips, flour, eggs and butter and I baked cookies for the kids when they got home from school.

12. it's a perfect day to bake cookies
i thought about getting cookie fixings when i hit the store today, but wasn't quite able to swing money wise.

we had a heavy, but brief, downpour early yesterday evening, but things began in earnest around midnight. the thunder and lightening were fantastic and i'm starting to hear a few rumblings again.

22. I've heard a few down here, too.
Bonehead left for Greeley yesterday...before the weather truly started...and without watching a forecast. He called last night and said he was freezing and he'd left his jacket down here with all his stuff that we're hauling up there on Sunday.

They've only been calling for this all week.

Sheesh.

14. Omg, I have no idea where you live.
But can I come visit?

It is so hot here every day, every night. The sun is out every damn day.

I know some would call me ungrateful, but anything can get old.

I am planning a trip to Alaska just to get away from this place.

I would love a rainy day. Truly.

18. Well, I planned my Alaska trip
just to get out of the heat.

Perhaps I should have looked into Colorado. Never been there. I will put that on my list for the next trip.

You have no idea how hot it is here. I know it sounds ridiculous, but to wake up day after day to a blinding sun in a blue sky, with 90 degree temps and 80 percent humidity can really get old.

We will not have our first cold front until the end of October, if that.

We do have a tropical storm bearing down on us. I look forward to the rain.

Sorry, I'll stop whining now.

Just wanted you know that someone envies your chill.:hi:

23. Well, I am planning to go to Anchorage
because I can fly there pretty much directly..

It is really just a wild hair on my part. Going by myself and I know nothing about the area. So fed up with the heat here and the idea just came to me. I am kind of impulsive that way.

Lol, that is actually how I ended up in the Keys so many years ago.

It seems to be a beautiful place and somewhere I always wanted to visit.

Gotta do it on the cheap, so I am going to get there and then take a train down the Kenai Peninsula. Really psyched about it.

Got all kinds of literature on it, been researching all angles... and ready to go.

20. It IS a little chilly tonight, isn't it?
Only got up to 57 in Boulder today, and it was gross and rainy all day. I was actually out in the rain for half an hour this morning, unloading a truck where I work with stuff for back-to-college. I was soaked by the time we were finished. Gotta love taking two showers in one day... x(

25. I wish I could've done the same a few days ago
It was hot (30c), then for a couple of days the high was 13c; then went back up to 30. For that interlude, I was wearing my winter clothes in my place. It was freezing.

And remember the old adage - body heat is the most effective way to warm up. :D

Hopefully it'll warm soon down there. Not too hot, of course. :hi:

28. It's like non-stop rain the past month in the Northeast. And way cooler than normal.
I can only imagine the amount of snow the winter will bring, if it's anything like the drenching we're getting this summer.

31. The days have been beautiful here, but the nights
have been unseasonably cool. When I wake up cold during the night and wonder if it's worth getting up to retrieve a blanket, I opt instead to call the dogs up onto the bed. Instant heaters. And, with what I pay for dog food, curling up next to me for warmth is the least they can do.
