Poll question: Which of these do you think is the greatest classic?
Everyone has their own version of "classic" and these barely touch the surface. But all of these has been called a "classic" at sometime in the history of filmmaking. So choose--and choose well.

1. I chose GWTW simply because it was like nothing else that ever came before it,

it was very well done, and contributed much to the industry .

Just the idea of a nearly 4 hour long movie in 1939.
By the way 1939 was really a banner year for movies. That was also "Wizard of Oz" and "Goodbye Mr Chips'
among others.

But that was a really hard list to choose from, except I would never vote Citizen Kane for anything, except maybe Orson Welles' voice.

Edited for really stupid apostrophe error.

2. Lawrence of Arabia
A true "epic" movie before epic movies were the standard. The first time I saw that movie, I was stunned at the scope of some of the shots - stuff that really couldn't have been that well faked with the technology of the era. I was blown away at how big and beautiful that movie was.

I suppose Casablanca deserves an honorable mention. But it doesn't go up to eleven.

4. Tôkyô monogatari, Ladri di biciclette. Au hasard Balthazar, Soy Cuba, Psycho, El Norte
But of the ones in your poll I would pick Casablanca first, Mockingbird second, Gone third.
