Meh.

I was expecting something a little more "epic" in scope if you know what I mean. Not just the usual mortal struggle for a city's very soul where the hero fights on after sacrificing everything he/she loves and cherishes despite knowing in his/her heart that any so called victory is ultimately meaningless and all his/ her struggles won't change anything in the long run, blah blah blah...

Heath ledger was OK as a joker but his accent sort of came and went and his hair wasn't terribly GREEN or AUBURN. Besides, I know everyone has said it a thousand times before but lets face it, all the BEST actors to play the Joker have had a white(ish) mustache.

Ledger's horrifying scars may seem cool but the idea is just a cheap rip off of Takashi Miike's "Ichi The Killer"

which was itself a cheap rip off of some PIRATE MOVIE or other from thirties...

On a more positive note, though, it's great to see Eric Roberts and Mariel Hemingway back on screen together one last time. The performances may not have been Oscar worthy but I don't see how the whole "Two Face" sub-plot could have worked without them, tacked on and contrived as it was.

As for Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance as the irrepressible Rachel Dawes, I give a horizontal thumb.

I think she delivered a much more compelling and nuanced performance along side Will Ferell in the film "Stranger Than Fiction"
.
but I've heard it through the hollywood grapevine that, unlike Katie Holmes

Maggie will be brought back to reprise the role of Rachel for the SEQUEL.

So even though, overall, I was somewhat disappointed in this new Bat-Man prequel but I must admit It's the best of the installments since Batman And Robin
