How are gas grills powered?
Do they have a little propane canister?

Also, is there anything I should look for when buying one?

Thanks.

1. Here's how....
There is a propane cannister filled with gas.

You turn a knob on the canister to open it and release the gas through a tube which runs up into the gas burner.

You then push the starter button, which creates a little spark in the burner, which ignites the gas.

The gas continues to flow from the canister, feeding the flame.

2. Excellent
Thank you.

Do you have one? And do you use it often enough to make it worthwhile? :D

14. Yes....I have one with the big white cannister.

I use it a lot, and they are definitely worth the money.

As CreekDog mentions down-thread, many people enjoy the smaller models.

I buy cheap ones, and when the burner rusts out or the starter goes, I just replace those parts.

15. I love mine
I've never been able to master grilling with charcoal but with a gas grill it's a lot easier to heat up and maintain temperature. I think it's a lot easier than charcoal and I don't personally notice a difference in flavor although some purists will tell you that gas isn't as tasty as charcoal.

9. they can use the little canisters or the big ones
depending on the size of the grill.

i prefer the smaller grills with the small canisters. easier to deal with.

mommy still doesn't come home...)

Wait, I'm sorry, what was the question? Gas grills? They use a tank of compressed propane...

17. I was given a new gas grill for my birthday and I use it frequently
This one:

http://www.charbroil.com/Consumer/product_detail_m.aspx?ProductID=1774

Four-Burner Gas Grill

Product Number: 463820308

Four-Burner Gas Grill With Side Burner
40,000 BTU
Four stainless steel burners
Rust-resistant porcelain top and firebox
Stainless steel handle, control panel, front panel, and sideburner lid
405 sq in main cooking surface
680 sq in total cooking surface
8,000 BTU covered sideburner
Porcelain cast iron grates
Electronic ignition
Large 7" casters

The value of four burners is that certain styles of cooking require you to set up "hot zones" and "cold zones." Also, you can cook burgers on high heat on the left side while toasting hamburger buns at a lower heat on the right.

I also LOVE "cedar plank" grilling tilapia and salmon, and this grill accomplishes that to perfection.

When my friend gave it to me as a gift, it was on sale at Home Depot for $150, and worth every penny.

18. Mine works like Philboy described
turn on the gas, push the button, look to make sure it started.

I use mine all year, heat, rain, snow.

Purists would say (and they'd be right) that charcoal-grilled food tastes better. Propane is a lot cleaner, faster, more convenient. And it lights easier when it's ten degrees outside.
