My dog is allergic to bees.....
So Egypt and I were outside this morning, enjoying some much needed sunshine.

She was rustling through the plants around the gazebo when she came running out, shaking her head and spinning in circles. I laughed a little and then realized she either had something in her mouth, or she was trying to get something. Then she started limping :scared:

I ran down to grab her and a few bees circled my head, but nothing major. When we got in the house, she was limping and just looked sad.

I laid in bed with her for a while, but she was trembling the whole time. She is not usually a shaker so I called the vet and they said to come right in.

When we got there, I realized her whole back leg was swollen. the vet said that some dogs get the swollen face, and some get the swelling at the site of the sting. All the vets and techs came into the room to check her out, and they ended up giving her an IV with anti-inflammatories and benadryl. Poor thing. Thankfully I learned that dogs very rarely get the throat closing reactions to stings, but that I should monitor her closely for the next 24 hours. The leg still looks HUGH. :wow:

The upside to this is that I was able to bow out gracefully from attending a wedding that I would have had to drive 200 miles each way to go to.

1. Poor Egypt - I hope she's doing better!
I've never had that happen with any of my dogs. Good to know to get them to the vet right away.

3. the swelling has gone down about halfway.
It took about 8 hours to see a noticeable decrease in swelling.

She is in much better spirits now too :D

The vet told me I should keep Benadryl on hand with soft treats if we are will be in an area where there may be bees and gave me her doseage. It is hard because she is such a small dog - 13 lbs (which is about 2 pounds more than she should be, but you would never know it by looking ar her).

2. Awww I hate to hear that but glad to hear she's ok
I have a blind kitty who loves to be outside but he almost got into some ants today. He probably doesn't remember but the lady that gave him to me as a kitten found him in a pile of ants getting ate up. He was born blind and the mother cat probably left him to die that way.

4. How scary for him!
Bless you for taking care of him.

She is starting to act a little like her spunky self - and I really mean a little - her bobtail is barely wagging but I can see happiness in her eyes.

6. Glad to hear she's doing ok!
Poor baby.

I had that happen to my Akita. She was snapping at them and got stung in the mouth. Her lip swelled up the size of a golf ball. I called the vet and he told me to give her some Benadryl and watch her and she was fine. It didn't seem to bother her at all. I wouldn't have know if it wasn't for the swelling.

7. my dog is allergic to bees as well
she's been stung a couple of times, but one time was up by her eye and her whole eyeball swelled and started popping out of the socket, that one landed her at the vet. We give her benadryl, I'm not recommending you do this until you talk to your vet first.
