Not interested in starting flamewars over the various diets followed, here, just curious as to where different people fall.

I'm pretty carnivorous--I eat most meat but for that I don't like because of taste. I've even tried some slightly offbeat meat such as venison, which was interesting. I love fish and some mollusks. Not really big on a lot of different vegetables, just carrots and corn and cucumbers (fruit? vegetable? whatever) and the like. Fruit's good, nuts are good. I love dairy in pretty much every form. As for clothing and stuff like that--I don't see the sense in wearing fur in particular. I will admit to being a bit dazzled by leather, though I don't think I've consciously worn it myself. My family hunts and fishes, though I don't, as I don't like guns and find fishing unbearably boring.

What about cha'll?

a person who doesn't use animal products. It's just a logical deduction, really...

2. Omnivorous.
I eat mostly chicken and some beef and pork. I don't like seafood except for shrimp. I do dairy and eggs. I'm good with most vegetables except for a few of those evil ones like lima beans or brussel sprouts.

I don't wear fur, but I do have a few leather items like my purse and shoes. I don't hunt or fish, either.

Figured I'd cut out the fish/seafood at some point - haven't yet. Don't eat it that very often though. Would LOVE to live with a vegan that loved to cook - I'd probably be one if I didn't have to work at it so hard. :)

16. I'm pretty omnivorous.
However, I eat a lot less meat than I used to, and I'm more picky about where it comes from and what's in it. I suppose if I were living with a vegetarian, I could adopt that lifestyle for the most part. I pretty much eat the Madrone diet when we're together, and I don't have problems. But then she eats fish.

My issue these days isn't what, it's how much. :(

17. Carnivore
When given the option.

Although.. I loves me my fruit. And dairy. and starch's. And veggies. So... an ideal meal is about 4 parts meat, 1 part starch, 1 part veggie, 2 parts cheese and 2 parts fruit.

Proceed to flog me for being irresponsible. I know we can't really eat that way. But in a dream world, that would be my preference.

18. Omnivorous
We eat a bit of red meat, a more significant amount of chicken and fish, and (rarely) venison from my stepfather's hunting in the Fall. I'm not crazy about raw veggies--I can tolerate tomatoes and cucumbers, so long as it's not an entire mouthful of nothing *but* that. Otherwise, I like cooked peas, green beans, carrots, corn, broccoli, potatoes, and sweet potatoes. I dislike most beans, save for lentils that are cooked "right" and those big butterbeans cooked with hamhocks and butter. I am very picky about fruit; I love juicy and sweet fruits, but I tend to avoid anything watery or sour--like watermelon, or strawberries that haven't been sugared a bit.

I love going fishing, and I'll gladly eat what I catch (so long as it isn't carp, which tastes like mud--yuck.) I don't wear fur, and our leather items were bought secondhand or given as hand-me-downs from my Mom.

31. sorry gary, i thought i was being so stupid that no one would misunderstand...
i have a friend that "claims" to be a vegetarian. almost every time we have dinner together, i see him eat something non-vegetarian. i've started to point this out and he says he's just "cheating a little bit." i can't wait to have the conversation with him about committed relationships.

i do admire those that commit to their beliefs. à salute...

and i did live this for about five years (a girl was involved, of course) but when she finally dumped my ass, the first thing i did was order a cheeseburger...

43. that is funny that you would say that...
because if a vegan/vegetarian goes off the reservation, i think nothing of that. eh, food...

but a cheater? i feel all sorts of hate for that. deep hate.

maybe that's because i see a sexual dalliance as more important than a food choice.

but that's me.

i am sure there are vegetarians/vegans that would be more tolerant if their so was fucking another rather than eating some meat.

i don't know.

we all get to pick and choose what we get pissed off about...

45. well
i think most vegetarians are pretty tolerant. most are also pacifists.

I say... live and let live.

If people want to eat meat, that's their choice... The one thing I do say, is if you're going to eat meat, you might want to consider looking into a cow's eyes, and then going to a slaughterhouse, so you know what you're supporting. Otherwise you're sort of burying your head in the sand. But that's your choice and I don't hold it against people.

But as far as cheating goes... I just don't think it's the right term to use in this case. If you are a vegetarian, you don't eat dead animals. If you try to be a vegetarian but "cheat" sometimes, then you are trying to be a vegetarian. More power to you, just for trying. It's an admirable thing to try to do. It shows your mind is in the right place. For some it's a difficult undertaking. For me, it's easy. I just have to look into a cow's eyes and I know I'm doing the right thing.

peace,
gary

59. It was coined in the SF bay area a few years ago.
True locavores won't eat something produced more than 100 miles from where they live, but the general idea is to eat locally as much as possible. By doing so you're not only reducing energy costs associated with transport but you develop a better sense of eating in season while supporting local (and usually smaller) businesses.

I used to be a picky eater, but bouts with homelessness, and its attendant starvation, robbed me of most qualms about food.

The best Xmas dinner I ever had was caribou sausage on white bread, with my bf and ~20 Native Americans in our one room apartment back in 1990.

I enjoyed learning how to cook for vegans - it can be very challenging.

I have given up the milk, eggs, and cheese. I still eat meat a couple times a week (only chicken...I don't eat beef, fish, or pork anymore). I'm trying to give it up. It can be difficult at times because I get craving for chicken once-in-a-while and I don't know how to make the cravings stop, and then I cave in and eat chicken. I hate it. I want to give it up altogether.

68. Complete Omnivore here. I will just about eat anything that is not tied down
or still alive.

My husband would argue about the still alive part regarding steak and roast beef, but he is squeamish and likes it well and truly DEAD. (aka ruined)

There are some oddball seafoods I won't touch, and I'm not too fond of sushi (can't get past the nasty taste of the seaweed, even on the veggie ones)

HOwever I do love veggies of all kinds, good beef, chicken and pork and some kinds of fish.

Love fruit, and love nuts way too much for my own good, and all dairy products.

Really good bread, with butter is fantastic.

I like organic fabrics and leather shoes. Don't wear fur.
