Ever had a summer cold?
I'm in the middle of the longest and most frustrating sickness I've experienced in a very long time. I got sick in the throat and lungs way back a day or two after the Fourth of July and it's still going strong. Sniffles, congestion, coughing, phlegm...what could be causing it to linger for so long?

1. Do you have allergies?
because sometimes the mucus build up can cause an upper resp. infection...

2. I caught one and developed pneumonia when I was 17.
Then I had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic for the pneumonia, started vomiting uncontrollably and wound up in the hospital for dehydration.

Not fun. x(

3. In the last few years there have been strains of bugs that last up to and beyond a month. Take
care of you.

5. Used to get sick when I installed my air conditioner.
Then clean all the dust off of it and took out the front filter and cleaned that as well. Never been sick since then.

6. Yes and it's very nasty
for some reason it usually goes into some complication like sinus infection, pneumonia or bronchitis, maybe because of the humidity. Hope you feel better.

7. There's a BAD one going around
I was sick for about 2 months with it.

Almost everyone I know who has had it has been WIPED OUT for weeks.

You might try going to the doctor and getting heavy-duty antibiotics, as well as taking claritin and some sort of nasal spray.

(I know the antibiotics are not supposed to work for colds, but the doctor was worried about secondary infections and I really felt better after taking them. That was the first doctor. Then I felt worse again, and the second doctor two weeks later loaded me up with 'roids, which also helped.)

Like, seriously, I got it in the beginning of May and only in the last couple DAYS has my ear drained. x(

9. Allergens and pollutants, maybe? My teen is sick right now
Happens every summer, she gets congestion and ear/throat swelling. It got really bad last year. We thought she missed it this year, but this week she got it full force. I don't think it's a virus or bug because of the timing and regularity, so I suspect it's an allergy. Though, it does lead to an infection.

10. I've got the same thing, wife too.
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 01:36 PM by arcadian
Do you know what it is? I'm just now getting over it. My wife is going to the doctor as we speak to get herself checked out.

I was sick back in April and now I'm sick again. I usually don't get sick at all and now it's twice in a very short time period. Achy joints, tired and sleeping a lot, coughing up nasty brown phlegm, coughing til my lungs are sore, lungs are raspy and wet when I breathe, continuous sneezing, head congested, ears filled with fluid, etc.
