I'm still bitter about the 1977 Marquette game.

I would have loved to see him and his teammates slaughter UNC Chapel Hill in the national championship game.

47. Heh
Nah, Lane was pretty pure, as athletes go.

I just looked at his Wiki entry and it doesn't tell the whole story. Lane came up as a receiver, and in camp in his rookie year he had trouble learning the plays, so he often got advice from Tom Fears, a Hall of Fame receiver. One night, Fears had "Night Train" on his record player and a few guys in his room, and when Lane came in one of them said, "There he is, Night Train."

Kinda funny — when Lane was in the Army, they sent him to the Defense Language School in Monterey to study intelligence and he played on the Fort Ord team. I've been in that stadium a few times.

53. from Paper Lion I always remember the locker room scene
when the coach wanted to know who drove a multi-color, one-of-a-kind car that was parked in a coach's slot. Nobody would admit to being the owner. Finally, (I think it was NT Lane) a voice asked if it was a 2 door or a 4 door in a southern drawl!

But, no, I do not remember how he got the nickname.
