Here's to one of the greatest songwriters whom you've never heart but have heard all of his songs covered by everyone else. Among his catalogue:

Cuddly Toy
Jump into the Fire (think GoodFellas, helicopter scene)
Me and My Arrow
My Girlfriend (Courtship of Eddie's Father)
Everybody's Talkin (Midnight Cowboy)
Coconut (you know..."put the lime in thee co-co-nut")

1. Love his music..........
"Me and My Arrow" was one of my favorite songs as a kid. I wore out an 8-track of his greatest hits my folks had listening to that song.

Remember this cartoon? http://youtube.com/watch?v=UjhTBZaVYfA

3. Finally, someone else who remembers "The Point"
Every time I hear "Me and My Arrow" I'll ask someone,

"Do you remember The Point?"

"What?"

"Oblio and Arrow? The boy who was born with no point on his head?"

"Uh, no."

Thanks for letting me know I am not crazy and there was an Oblio.

6. I remember too
It's still available as a video and in my job I made it available for baby grownups to see it too - and many of them had parents who had intro'd them to it.

2. Nilsson Schmilsson was the first album I ever bought
I was in 9th grade and i felt very very sophisticated. I wrote my name on the album cover.

I still listen to it.

5. Think About Your Troubles
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 02:21 PM by RainDog
edited to switch out for a longer link (the other cuts off)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1PFHJOSMmmA

Sit beside the breakfast table
Think about your troubles
Pour yourself a cup of tea
And think about the bubbles

You can take your teardrops
And drop them in a teacup
Take them down to the riverside
And throw them over the side
To be swept up by a current
And taken to the ocean
To be eaten by some fishes
Who were eaten by some fishes
And swallowed by a whale
Who grew so old
He decomposed

He died and left his body
To the bottom of the ocean
Now evverybody knows
That when a body decomposes
The basic elements
Are given back to the ocean

And the sea does what it oughta
And soon there's salty water
(That's not too good for drinking)
'Cause it tastes just like a teardrop
(So they run it through a filter)
And it comes out from a faucet
(And is poured into a teapot)
Which is just about to bubble
Now think about your troubles

One of my favorite songs of all time.

7. Joy to the world was a beautiful girl, but to me Joy meant only sorrow
The other day, I met a girl named Joy
She said, “Come here, I’m going to make you my Joy Boy”
Well, things went good, things went bad
Now every time I think of Joy it makes me sad

It makes me . . . sad

The other day, I met a girl named Joy
She said, “Roy, I’m going to make you my Joy Boy”
Well, she took me for a ride, sort of a joy ride
Now every time I think of Joy, I get all weird inside

Sung:

Joy to the world was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow

Spoken:

Now, if you haven’t got an answer, you’d never have a question
And if you never had a question, then you’d never have a problem
But if you never had a problem, well everyone would be happy
But if everyone was happy, there’d never be a love song

Joy to the world was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow

The other day, I met a girl named Joy
She said, “Come here, I’m going to make you all clammy inside”
Well, things went good, things went bad
Things went good and things went bad
Good, bad, good, bad, good, bad

Sung:

Joy to the world was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
Joy to the world was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
