I just got off the phone with Mary Ellen, Khash's mom...

He is dead.

His dad found his body on June 29th...

They hadn't been able to reach him for several days and normally they're in touch quite a lot...

So his dad went into his apartment, and he was lying on the floor...

They don't know how he died yet, as they are waiting for the autopsy report...

His mom told me to tell all of you who knew him and who love him that she would be glad to talk to you...

Just PM me and I will give you her cell number...This was her idea.


I cannot believe that I will never hear his voice again..

Or hear his infinite wisdom...

I am crying for my terrible loss...

He always encouraged me in my poetry and in any situation that I found myself in...

My dear friend is dead. And there is no help for it.


At least his pain, his suffering is over, and I thank god for that.

I want everyone to know what an amazing gift to me Khash was.

When my husband got extremely sick ( he has a failing liver ) Khash Pm'ed me and I called him. It was an extremely sweet thing to do considering I had never met him. He helped me with his words. Later, I sent him a friendship necklace of beads that I handmade for him as a kind of "thank you". He called me and thanked me profusely. This was long ago.

All of us will die , sooner than later , everyone last one of us . But it is indeed very hard on the ones that follow for they terribly miss him , miss her , and no place other than memory does their scent remain. This is the hardest thing to face and digest there is.

I won't lie and pretend that I knew khash closely , or claim that I am saddened more that the sadness that lands on me upon hearing about the passing of a stranger. But that it affects you that saddens me more than the daily existential angst. Take care of yourself.

I recall I was a Moderator when I read that Kephra had passed away, we received word from his mom, via DU. I got her # and called her, it was true, and I posted that fact.

It was one of the saddest things I had ever done, and have always hoped that no DU'er would ever pass on again. But that is not the way of things, there are some things we cannot control, and rarely understand. This is one of those things.

I like to think of it this way, another soul is having a great meet-up w/our brothers and sisters who have gone before us.

I never actually exchanged posts with Khash, but I recall his posts quite vividly; he stood out among the legion of thousands of DUers whose usernames I've seen in the past 4 years. He NEVER said anything generic or bland; not a word was wasted. It was obvious he was a person of intensity and depth, and I regret not getting to know him more on DU. Rest in peace, brother...

editorial comment: Losing a child, at any age, is hell. My big sister died when she was 42, of cancer. I was 35 and always looked up to her. Her death destroyed me and it destroyed my parents.


My dad, who never cussed, told me: Every day I wake up, and then I remember that Karen is dead, and I say, "Shit".

I always enjoyed his posts. If I was perusing through a lot of responses, I always read his responses. I didn't know him, but I got the sense that, if I did, I would have liked him a lot. He was always interesting and always came off as genuinely good person. He seemed like he'd have been a delight to know as a friend.
