Yes, it's a mainstream, Christian, wholesome, family-oriented Methodist Church in a small town in Georgia. But their name, ah, their name is so deeply offensive, that I almost feel guilty posting this picture from their website:

Sorry, pastor, but that
ain't MY way of prayin'

With his Soddommobile tour.

The picture is truly mind-boggling.

5. It's an unfortunate double-entendre...
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 11:28 AM by alg0912
...but it does follow a traditional naming convention of that particular denomination (name of community + First United Methodist Church). I don't know if it's that offensive, once you think of it in the traditional sense.

(on edit: the website must get a lot of unintentional hits from pervs...)

7. ROTFLMAO!!!!!! (well, not really...)
Do they wantonly ignore the obvious double entendre here?!

:wow:

It is rather offensive, but if they don't realize they're offending themselves, you can bet your bippy I'll be laughing...

8. Re: Church name
Since the Church is in the city of Cumming which is located in Georgia, I don't see anything sick about that Church's name. Unoriginal and a tad idiotic choice of naming but not sick - UNLESS you have a sick mind:p.

13. What's the hoopla anyways, naming a church after it's CITY -??
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 11:56 AM by ConcernedCanuk
.
.
.

Remember, "gay" didn't mean anything except "happy" until we decided to give it a different meaning

and "awful" used to mean "full of awe" in the "good" sense until we used it for something else

and so on . .

and I'm quite sure that the founding fathers of Cumming, Georgia had no idea that some day we all would think of s-e-x when we heard that word ?

oh yah, and there's a cab company there called "A 1 Cumming Cab"

Betcha they get's lots of jokes - no ?

And

Animal Medical Center of Cumming

Bruster's of Cumming

Cumming Eye Clinic - how ya like THAT one ??

Cumming Family Medicine - hmmmm - Prozac maybe ?

Cumming Home Rental

Cumming Skate Center

Cumming Travel Deals - well - that must be one heck of a deal !!!

Soo -

We gotta get over this word-sensitivity thingie sooner or later, can't rename all the people and places because they "offend" us somehow?

sheesh

- settle people !

15. Funny perhaps outside of GA, but the town of Cumming and all the
stores and offices named after it would not garner a guffaw outside the region....Since I lived in GA on several occasions, it took me a minute to figure out what you were so offended about. Cumming, GA is just Cumming, GA....

But, so that you don't feel attacked for your post, I will say that I had a similar experience when I found the name of a certain chain of convenience stores in the rural midwest to be quite "unusual," to put it mildly. They even have coffee mugs and gargantuan drink cups with their name and logo, which proudly states "KUM-n-GET IT!"

18. The people in that town should be thankful they didn't name it...
'Dogshit'.

Point is, take everything in it's context. As a notion, I am more concerned about what's IN the church, as opposed to what is outside of it.

23. Cumming First
is a strange concept on which to found a church. Personally, I think we should do others as we would like to be done, or something like that.
