4. Knob Creek was always a little rough for my tastes.
It's got a good flavor, but I like my whiskey really smooth.

I've never had Old Granddad.

5. I only drank whiskey once - Jack Daniels - about 30 years ago.
It just about fucking killed me. Never again!

I also took a small sip of a gin drink back then too. That shit tastes like gasoline, or like someone drank it once already. And the very few that drank it turned into instant assholes after a few. No thanks!

9. My dear LostInAnomie!
On the very rare occasion that I do drink whiskey, I prefer Jack Daniels, or Gentleman Jack...

I love the flavor!

Cheers!

22. if they make it in St Louis, they can't call it Bourbon. I believe Yellowstone
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 08:43 AM by yellowdogintexas
is made in Owensboro, Kentucky. We used to smell the sour mash when they cooked it.
There was a beer brewery there as well.

edited to add: apparantly Congress went behind my back on this one, in 1964, see the link in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourbon_whiskey

if you link on the brands list it breaks down whiskey in America with all the Kentucky ones together.

Bardstown is distillery central with Louisville pretty close .

I don't like bourbon myself. Got sick on in once. That was enough

We then drive only a short distance past the adult video stores, strip bars, pawn shops, and quick check cashing stores to the site of the old Yellowstone distillery. Yellowstone Bourbon, originally the flagship label of the Cold Springs Distillery in Gethsemane, was made by J.B. Dant as early as 1865 and later by Taylor & Williams. It did not survive Prohibition, but soon after Repeal, the family revived it at this Louisville location. In 1944 both the label and the distillery were purchased by Glenmore. Yellowstone was one of the premier bourbons of Kentucky, and indeed during the ‘60s it was said to be the leading bourbon sold in Kentucky for most of the decade. In the early 1970’s, Glenmore shut down distilling operations at their Owensboro plant and all Glenmore distilling was done here until this facility closed in 1991. It is now owned by the Florida Citrus Distillers corporation, and only a couple of the main buildings and two of the original warehouses remain.

28. that is what I thought. Glenmore was the name that escaped me and
since I left Owensboro in 1969 I would have missed out on the departure of Glenmore from O'boro. Wonder if the fraternity guys experienced withdrawal from the sour mash fumes? LOl

15. other
my favourite of the larger market ones is called Elijah Craig. I don't know how widely available it is, but since I've had it in California, and it's from Kentucky, I think it counts. Some day I'd really like to try lots from different distilleries in Kentucky, but who knows when that will be. Right now I'm drinking Jack, just because it was the only dinkable thing that came in small bottles at the store.

i do love some of the others listed, but they are not even close to being worth two to three times the price for some minuscule perceived advantage in whatever.

evan williams is the shit...

25. I concur
I can buy a 1.75L bottle of it for about 16 dollars. I enjoy a glass of fine expensive bourbon every now and then but Evan is just fine...it's extremely drinkable on the rocks

Too bad we have to pay a premium for it in California otherwise I'd keep a bottle on stock all the time.

23. I find Knob Creek, Maker's Mark, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey
and several others to be some excellent Burbon. But, due to price constraints we drink our regular 'Ancient Ancient Age' and are very happy with it. I would not even drink regular Ancient Age. Too green!
