1. Yes, indeedy!

One thing I love about Gilmour is that he can play a guitar solo that's louder, noisier, more rocking, more intense, more insane, and way above just about any guitarist in the heavy metal/hair band/nu-metal/etc. genres, and he does it all without thrashing around like an asshole - he does it while it just standing there, making the occasional kissy face.

(I know he's not a metal guitarist, but I bring up the metal dudes because they're the ones who feel the need to thrash around and gyrate and fall on the floor and play between their legs and whatnot to show how "insane" and "good" they are, and because I believe that, while Gilmour has never been in the metal category, his solos are more "metal" than most metal bands, excepting Black Sabbath - but note that Toni Iommi also does his earth shattering avalanche of metal perfection while just standing there).

He doesn't need to play 5000 notes per second in order to play circles around the likes of the thrashers. He kicks their asses without breaking a sweat.
