What did you think of the movie "Rules of Attraction"?
I haven't read the book, but the movie was not a pleasant experience. Paul was nice, everyone one else seemed unconcerned with their own lives, let alone anyone elses. Googling this movie it is conncted to American Psycho, and even shares characters.? wtf

1. For the rest of my life, i will always connect...
Harry Nilsson's "Without You" with the suicide scene.

That was an f'ed up flick... one that i put in a box with Cruel Intentions, as films that i love, despite the fact that they are so warped and twisted.

2. Is that what Oprah was promoting this morning?
There was a blurb for her show in which she was babbling about rules of attraction and then some woman said it changed her life. Whatever it is, it must appeal to the bored-housewife demographic.

3. It's the same author.
The whole point of the book/movie was that they were unconcerned with their own lives. It was the soulless 80's he was trying to portray in his books. Bret Easton Ellis.

7. It was part I to a trilogy B.E. Ellis wrote about yuppie scum

The book takes place in the 80's, which is a much better time period than the 90's that the movie is set in. The book really captures the narcissism of a students at a small liberal arts college in the 80s. American Psycho is kind of a "what happens to them next" in context.

As far as I know, B.E. Ellis wrote part three in this, but has yet to release it.

8. I really liked the movie.

I think it's a great portrayal of the narcissism of youth (especially rich, white youth) in a world where all the vices are available to them.

The connection with American Psycho is that James Van Der Beek's character in TROA is supposed to be the brother of Christian Bale's character in American Psycho (in the books, at least).
