I've said it before and I'll say it again. Larry Linville was a fucking genius.

I'm watching the one now where Frank lines up the condiments on the table in the mess tent, according to size and popularity: You've got your ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, oil, vinergar, salt and pepper, and your sweet and sour gherkins, all in a row.

1. I loved him. It took far more comic talent...
...for him to play the selfish, cowardly, neurotic Frank Burns than for Alan Alda to do his endless Groucho schtick.

2. Yes!! So true.
Did you know that Linville trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London?

4. I didn't know that, but I'm not surprised.
He was a very talented actor. It's a shame he got so typecast as the sniveling loser. After MASH, I only every saw him in small roles as officious busybodies or prissy moralists. What a waste of his talent.

I'm watching the one in which people have to all pack themselves like sardines in tents to conserve heat.

8. He played the role of Everett Baker in the Great Performances broadcast of "Crazy For You."
Still one of my favorite musical productions, and he was great in it. If I hadn't recognized the name and looked him up, I never would have known it was him.

9. Last night, I was watching the first episode with B.J.
and I thought of a few trivia questions:

• Where were B.J. and Peg when B.J. got his orders to report for basic? (Bonus: Why is it called that?)

• What was the name of their baby sitter who took the call?

• How old was she?

"Oh, Frank — you're so above average."

2. Norma Jean was the name of the babysitter.

3. She was 16.

14. Because it's at the top of the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel
Owner said he didn't know what to call the top of the Mark.

People said, That's it!

Thus, Top of the Mark.

11. Truly brilliant and genuinely nice.
I remember seeing an interview/profile of him shortly before his death, he was so very moved by all the support he received from M*A*S*H fans.
