Mine would be "my bad". Too often this phrase is used with no remorse or contrition at all. It's as if the mere utterance of "my bad" makes everything alright. :puke:

In fact, "homeland". Period. I don't have a homeland. Large, muscular, blond people wearing jackboots have one of those, and my ancestors spent a lot of time hiding from them. I have a country, and I want it back!

15. Yes, there's too much creepiness attached to that word.
My only assocciations with that word are Bush and the Nazis. I haven't heard them use "Fatherland" yet, but who knows...maybe in private among themselves.

..."Above All," which neatly translates to "Uber Alles" in German. So "Fatherland" can't be far behind.

42. That makes me think of another word, warrior,
everybody's a freakin' warrior now. We've become an aggressive nation of warriors. Instead of Athens, we want to be Sparta. It all seems immature to me.

BTW, I noticed your sig line. I've been a big fan of Brian Eno and space music for several years now. That's a perfect thing for him to say, and just as thought provoking as his music.

45. I hate that crap too.
The glorification of special forces, commandos, "shadow warriors", and "ninja-type" soldiers of all kinds points to an unhealthy worship of the trappings of clandestine militarism. A hundred years ago, the British Army refused to establish a "secret army" that would operate behind enemy lines, because to do so would be "ungentlemanly." Such qualms seem almost impossibly quaint in our cynical and jades times.

I love the Eno quote. It really sums up how I feel about life. I keep waiting for that great future I was promised as a child to get here.

20. I usually see it as shorthand for "I can't explain this, so I won't entertain questions about it"
It typically functions as a way to excuse the speaker from responsibility for what she's speaking.

although there are plenty of people who shouldn't be allowed to use the word fag for that anyway... that's like the N word, only we can use it. :P

I'm just tired of the whole 'that's so gay' type phrase being thrown around.

33. YESSS!! Because, seriously, it is stupid on it's face.
First of all, if one is going to add "-gate" to a scandal, it sacks the basics of the term. The original scandal should then have been "WatergateGate" right? So like, if there was a scandal about water today, wtf would it be? Right, Watergate.

I stole that idea from somebody, and I don't recall who it was.

36. Just like regular bingo,
except instead of numbers, you use words or phrases like "at the end of the day", "no brainer", "synergy, etc. As the meeting speakers are plowing through their materiel, you mark off a spot on you "bingo" card until someone has a complete line. When that happens, the lucky winner gets to jump up and yell "BULLSHIT"! Alternate rules (to keep from getting canned) are to just keep track of the words, placing side bets on which one will be used the most.

Try it, you'll never be bored at a meeting again!

47. words that aren't words: "irregardless"; and misquotes: "Have my cake & eat it, too" (backward)
"Irregardless" is not a word - ppl confuse it with irrespective

Have my cake and eat it too is a misquote of "Eat my cake and have it too."
(You can have your cake and then eat it; but you can't eat your cake and then have it)

"I could care less" when ppl are trying to express how little they care. Yes, you COULD care less, but if you are trying to say that you couldn't care less the phrase is "I couldn't care less."

The list goes on and on........
