varieties of fatherhood, part 2
Two years ago, I posted this. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x5280552

Chris' birthparents broke up in December. She's remarried and pregnant now, and has largely stopped responding to emails and voicemails from us. Eric, however, continues to call and send present to Chris that he, in all likelihood, can't well afford. We got a couple of packages of squeeze paint brushes and design your own ties with fabric crayons from him this week. As I'm a dumbass and in grad school (my all-purpose excuse), I didn't get a card to either him or my own dad in the mail in time. I'll call both of them tomorrow.

My dad withstood my own illness when I was a kid. Eric and M (if anyone wonders: I don't name Chris' birthmom because she has an unusual name, out of privacy concerns) gave us the most incredible gift imaginable. Eric hasn't seen Chris in a while, but will be here next month.

Thanks, Dad. Thanks, Eric.

1. That's such an amazing story.
And all of you involved are amazing people. I think it's very special that you have chosen to allow Chris's birth parents to remain a part of his life. How special for them AND for him. You are remarkable, ulysses.

and ... Happy Father's Day! :D

We're, perhaps, more remarkable than we should be. :)
