Has anyone seen a commercial for Ocean County, Maryland?
I was watching American Dad, on Fox (yes, I know, I know) when this very odd ad appeared:

As best I recall, it ended with "Visit Ocean County, Maryland before our planet spirals to a vaporous death."

It's been hot here and I want to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. Or watching a few interpolated moments of Mad.

1. The "vaporous death" part
actually refers to the Beltway in Prince George's County at about 5 PM on a Friday afternoon.

4. Yes!. Thank you! I had OC MD in my notes.
I was trying to get the "vaporous death" down before I forgot it. But I just searched YouTube for Ocean City (thanks to you) and now I think I know what I must have seen. They're having a contest for videos that tout Ocean City. This must have been one of the winners.

15. Be warned: If you love freedom, sunshine and kittens, DO NOT go to...
....the craphole pit of a bar and club called Seacrets in Ocean City.

I'm not going to say why except that it is evil there. Very, very evil. Trust me on that one.

5. That's really cool - who says CalTrans lacks a sense of humor?
It's funny to think of highways as crosscountry connections rather than just local(ish) roads. Whenever I got on I-10 in Louisiana, I always got a little thrill to think that it ended in Santa Monica; that that one ribbon of asphalt was a direct connection to the Pacific...

8. I know exacly what you mean - Texas never freakin' ends
The worst for me was the 20-odd miles of I-10 after El Paso - "Good god, that was the westernmost city! Let me out of this freakin' state!"

(Not that I disliked Texas - there was interesting scenery (in places), good barbecue, and some nice people - but it's just way too big.)

9. we were almost out--almost but it was getting really late so pulled into the last town
before you leave the state, it was aroun 10:30pm and we stopped in pizza hut, everybody stopped eating and looked up, the only thing missing was the sound of a shot gun being cocked. We ate as fast as we could, checked into the local motel and idn't even change out clothes, got up at 5:00am, changed really fast and got the hell out of Dodge.

10. I never got the 'everything but the shotgun' vibe, but I often did feel like
people thought I was a little bit slow. C'mon - how am I supposed to know that I have to choose two kinds of meat as side dishes to go with the three kinds of barbecued meat I already ordered?

(To be honest, it stings a little to be thought 'slow' in a state where stopping at the bottom of the on-ramp is considered good driving. :) )

I was the ignorant Californian who didn't understand that smoked sausage with jalapeno counts as a vegetable...

17. i think that's the joke, they put up the sign out here in response to the MD sign
funny thing is that the sign from Maryland to Sacramento is 3073, but the sign here is practically in Davis, but still 3073. my guess is that going east, distance compresses. :dunce:
